ON THE NATURE OF THAT EVIDENCE BY
WHICH THE GOSPEL IS SUPPORTED..

IT has been the fate of many

great and illuftrious characters, to be: mifreprefented; and to have different opinions formed of them by perfons of different parties and prejudices ; but there never was a perfon on earth who has, for fo long a time been a fubject of controverfy as JESUS CHRIST. The controversy has affumed various forms, and has been stimulated by various paf-frons and interefts; but it has never been difcontinued, or, if filent awhile,. it has broken out again from its reftraint.
