36 And a man's 'foes shall be they of his own household.
37 He that 'loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of
38 And he that taketh not "his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. 40 He that 'receiveth you receiveth me, and ¶ he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

2 John sendeth his disciples to Christ, 7 Christ's testimony concerning John. 18 The opinion of the people, both concerning John and Christ. 20 Christ upbraideth the unthankfulness and unrepentance of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum: 25 and praising his Father's wisdom in revealing the Gospel to the simple, 28 he calleth to him all such as feel the burden of their sins.
AND it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 'Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art thou he that 'should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and 'see:
sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness. HEB. vi. 10: God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed towards his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
LUKE, vii. 18, 19, &c: And the disciples of John showed him of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come, or look we for another ? &c.

DAN. ix. 24: Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. JOHN, vi. 14: This is of a truth that Prophet that should come into the world.

and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
e ISA. xxix. 18: In that day, shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obseurity; and out of darkness. do. xxxv. 4-6: Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense, he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing. do. xlii. 7: To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house. JOHN, ii. 23: Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast-day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. do. iii. 2 : The same [Nicodemus] came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. do. v. 36: But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. do. x. 25, 37, 38: Jesus answered them, I told you, and believed not: the works that I do in Father's name, they bear witness of me. If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him. do. xiv. 11: Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very work's sake.

Ixi. 1: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek, he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted. do. lxvi. 2: To this man will I look, even to him that is poor, and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he hath promised to them that love him?
g ISA. viii. 14, 15: And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken. MAT. xiii. 57: And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. do. xxiv. 10: And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. do. xxvi. 31: Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. Roм. ix. 32, 33: Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law: for they stumbled at that stumbling-stone; as it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 1 Cor. i. 22, 23: For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling-block, and unto the Greeks foolishness. do. ii. 14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. GAL. v. 11: And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. 1 PET. ii. 7,8: Unto you therefore who believe, he is precious; but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence.
h LUKE, vii. 24, 30: And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. JOHN, v. 35: He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
