The Jews' Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, & will glorify it again. 29 The people, therefore, that stood by and heard it said, that it thundered; others said, An angel spake to him. 30 Jesus answered, & said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 82 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the ·last day. disciples' feet, &c. him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet! 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter; and Peter said unto • Went, was going. 7 Jesus answered, and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.b 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not,c save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit; and ye are clean, but not all. 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. And when he had dipped the sop be Save it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon. 30 He then, having received the sop, went immediately out; and it was night. 31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. 33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and, as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go ye cannot come; so now I say to you. 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. 36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. 37 Peter said unto him, CHAP. XIV. 1 Christ comforteth his disciples; 6 professeth himself the way, the truth, and the life. LET not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 ¶ Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way ? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,a and the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also; and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. a I am the way, &c. My perfect example and holy life are the way; and no man cometh to the Father but by this way. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me, hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself; but the Father, that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works' sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unyou, He that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments: may 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, but neither knoweth him; ye know him; for he dwelleth 20 At that day ye shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, (not Iscariot,) Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Comforter promised. as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than 1. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence, me CHAP. XV. The mutual love between Christ and his members, under the parable of the vine. I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean, through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. |
