O fpeak nothing of those whom the cruelty of the perfecutorso forced to á voluntary exile, of whom there can be no particular account had, befides 6 or 7 minifters that were banished and went to Holland, and 7 or 8 country people to France, feveral others to Barbadoes, before the year 1666. About the year 1678. there were banished to be fold for flaves for the fame caufe for which others fuffered death at home, of men and women about 1700 viz anno 1678, to Virginia 60, whereof three or four were minifters, who were all by the mercy of God delivered at London, item, anno 1679. of the prisoners taken at Bothwel, were banished to America, 250,) who were taken away by Paterfon merchant at Leith,

who transacted for them with Provoft Milns, laird of Barnton the man that firft burnt the covenant: whereof two hundred were drowned by hipwreck at a place called the Murehead of Darkness near Orkney, being shut up by the faid Paterfon's order beneath the hatches, fifty efcaped, whereof the names, fo many of them as could be had follow, these who efcaped being marked with a star for diftinctions fake. Afterwards were banished to Carolina thirty, who were transported in James Gibson's fhip, called fometime Baillie Gibson in Glasgow, of whom it is obferved, that in God's righteous judgment he was caft away in Carolina bay, when he commanded in the rifing fun; they received their fentence, July 17. 1684. Anno 1685. In the time of Queensberry's parliament, of men and women were fent to Jamaica two hundred. And th fame year, one Pitlochie transported to new Jerfic one hundre whereof twenty-four were women. And in the fame ye

thirteen more were fent to Barbadoes. Their names are not the_hands of the Publishers, if they be at all recorded.

O give an Account of the many hundreds, who either died or contracted their deaths in prifon, by the severities they met with of cold, hunger, thirft, want of room and air, fetters, tortures, ftigmatizing, whipping, etc. would be a work of immenfe labour, nor can any full account thereof be had, confidering the vast numbers of fuch, and the neglect of writng memoirs of these things, or their being feized by the perecutors, who were industrious to fupprefs fuch accounts of their own villanies from the view of pofterity. The number of fuch as fuffered under colour of law, and judicial trial, from Mr. James Guthry the first, to Mr. James Renwick the last 3 has been computed to amount to about 140. But the counfel ors willing to ease themselves of that lingering way of doing ufinefs, not content with Poperies gradual advancement, were for doing their work all at once; and accordingly authorised captains, lieutenants, ferjeants and fingle foldiers to shoot all ufpected perfons, where e'er they could catch them without further trial of their pretended crimes; and accordingly be wixt the year 1682, and 1688. when a revolution of affairs out a ftoop to their career and bloodshed, there were murdered n the open fields, the following perfons, befides others that o certain lift has been got of, as they are enumerated in a print intituled, A fhort memorial of the fuffering and grievances of
