killed. I fell on my temple. My cheek bone was broke in two, and two of my teeth driven into my head. I was fupported by an invisible hand: And in a little time I mounted as well as I could on another horse, and had a man on my fide to keep me up.

My relations left me in peace at Gex, teftifying their esteem for me: And as they had heard at Paris of my miraculous cure, it made a great noife there. Many perfons in reputation for fanctity then writ to me. I received letters from Madamoifelle DE LAMOIGNON, and another young lady, who was fo moved with my anfwer, that the fent me a hundred Pistoles for our houfe, and let me know befide," that, when "we wanted money, I had only to write to her; and "that he would fend me all I could defire." They talked in Paris of printing an account of the facrifice I had made, and inferting in it the miracle of my fudden recovery. I don't know what prevented it: But fuch is the inconftancy of the creature, that this journey, which drew upon me at that time fo much applaufe, has ferved for a pretext for the ftrange condemnation which has fince been paffed upon me.

The TRANSLATOR to the READER.

I conclude this FIRST VOLUME with Two Expreffions of our Bleffed SAVIOUR, and some Lines annexed thereto, viz.

I. THE Queen of the South ball rife up in the Fudgment with this Generation, and shall condemn it, &c. MAT. xii. 42.

2. Many fhall come from the East, and Weft, and hall fit down with Abraham, and Ifaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven: But the Children of the Kingdom fhall be caft out, &c. MAT. viii. 11, 12.

Kingdom,

Kingdom, is my fervent defire. Much work is to be done, in order to be fit for it: But it is the best work. All elfe below the Sun is as nothing, compared with it.

HAD it been for any corruptible crown that M. GUION refigned, laboured and fuffered so much, we might cenfure her for it; but not so justly when we confider that it was for one which is incorruptible: Which, when obtained, is an infinite recompence for all paft fufferings and facrifices: But the lofs of it is far too dear a price for all the prefent gratifications of corrupt nature; or (most unwifely) chufing to. please ourselves, and others, rather than CHRIST. In fuch cafe the children of the kingdom, the members of the pureft church, or the defcendents of the beft of men, are caft out: They forfeit an endless inheritance, having rendered themselves unfit for it.

As it is not yet too late, as the leaft delay is of the greateft danger, let then every thing which obftructs this fitnefs, be freely and readily facrificed, to purchase the pearl of ineftimable price. So will the LORD, if we continue ftedfaft and immoveable in this difpofition, to the end of our days, perfect the glorious Work of our Redemption. He will fhield from every affault of the grand enemy, fuftain through every probation, comfort with a lively and well-grounded hope, and afterwards crown with a happy Immortality.
