MANIFESTATION OF THE SPIRIT.

HAVING in the "method with infidels" demonstrated, as it is believed, the truth and certain validity of the Holy Scriptures, we come next, in order, to prove the certainty of the manifestation of the Spirit of the Son of God to the souls and percep tions of men.

This is a doctrine every where taught in those Scriptures; and its belief is therefore vital to Christianity. Fletcher has, we conceive, proved the soundness of this doctrine in a most inimitable manner. As it is matter but little better understood by some Professors, than it is misconceived by all Unbelievers, (for some Professors have the form of godliness, but deny the power thereof;") it is therefore sustain ed throughout, by the confession of Faith of the Episcopal Church, (of which he was an eminent Pastor,) as well as by the word of God,

Were the doctrine of regeneration more inforced, and of course better understood, even among many of those who assume the name of christians, Infidelity would be spoiled of many of its weapons against christianity. Sceptics have often but too much reason to cry out mystery! mystery! when they find those who should be able to speak intelligibly of the
