TO its utility, rather than to any merit in the composition, the author attributes the favourable reception of this book. The first edition was exceedingly imperfect, through causes which it would be of little use to make public. More favourable circumstances concurred to improve the second and third. A fourth being called for, the author paid to its further improvement all the attention which more important duties would allow; and he hopes, how deficient soever it may be found in some respects, none will have reason to complain of inaccurate or erroneous information.
Any suggestions tending to improve a future edition, he will receive with thankfulness.
