MY DEAR FRIEND,

As the advocate of my country, as the steadfast, constant, and unyielding friend of injured Ireland, I feel it no small privilege to be permitted to send forth the following pages under the sanction of your name. They are Extracts from the truly valuable sermons of our departed friend, whose name I shall ever cherish with my dearest recollections.

As one of the most faithful and fearless of ministers, as one of the most practical and powerful preachers of the truth, I respected and admired him, and "esteemed him very highly in love for his work's sake;" but what endeared him to me more than allwhat, I feel confident, endeared him equally to you— he was the friend of Ireland, he pleaded the cause of unhappy Erin. Led on by you, and aided by the dear brother who is now with the Lord, he endeavoured to kindle the light of truth among my poor countrymen in St Giles; and he lived to see the wholesome beams of that light spreading far and
