understood that he spoke to them about John the Baptist.

14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15 Have pity on my son: for he is a lunatic, and suffers badly: for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they were unable to cure him. 17 And he answering said to them, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him here to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went from him: and from that hour he was healed. 19Then came the disciples to Jesus privately, and said, Why could not we cast it out? 20 And he said to them, On account of your little faith: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mountain, Remove from hence: yonder; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

22 And while they were travelling together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men : 23 And they will kill him, and the third day he shall be raised. And they were exceedingly grieved.

24 And when they were come into Capernaum, the receivers of the Didrachms came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Teacher pay the Didrachms? 25 He saith, Yes. And having entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive tribute or census? From their own sons or from strangers? 26 And he said, From strangers. And having said From strangers Jesus said to him, Therefore the sons are free. 27 But that we may not offend them, go to the lake and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that cometh up; and on opening his mouth thou shalt find a Stater; take that, and give it to them for me and thee.

T that time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2And having called a little child, he placed

him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say to you, Unless ye shall be changed, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5And whoever shall receive one such child in my name receiveth me. 6But whoever shall offend one of these little ones believing in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hung upon his neck, and that he were sunk in the depth of the sea. 7Woe to the world from causes of offence! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to the man by whom the offence cometh! 8 And if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed or lame, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire. 9And if thine eye be a cause of sin to thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the gehenna of fire. 10See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father in heaven. 12 What think ye? if a man should have a hundred sheep, and one of them should go astray, doth he not leave the ninety-nine, and going, he seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if he happen to find it, verily I say to you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14Thus it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. 15 And if thy brother shall trespass, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16But if he will not hear, take with thyself one or two, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and the taxgatherer. 18Verily I say to you, whatever ye shall bind upon the earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever ye shall loose upon the earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on the earth about asking any

thing, it shall be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 21Then came Peter, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22Jesus saith to him, I say not to thee, Until seven times but until seventy times seven. 23Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a man, a king, who wished to compare an account with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to compare, one was brought to him, a debtor of many talents. 25 But he being unable to pay, the lord commanded him to be sold, and the wife, and the little children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26Then the servant falling down did homage to him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27Then the lord of that servant, moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But that servant going out, found one of his fellow servants who owed him an hundred denarii; and having seized him, throttled him, saying, Pay whatever thou owest. 29Then his fellow servant falling down, besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee. 30And he would not: but going out, he cast him into prison until he should pay the debt. 31Then his fellow servants seeing what was done, were very sorry, and came and told their lord all that had been done. 32Then his lord, having called him, saith to him, O wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou didst entreat me: 33 Did it not behove thee also to pity thy fellow servant, as also I pitied thee? 34 And his lord, being indignant, delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was owing to him. 35Thus also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother.

ND it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these A discourses, he departed from Galilee, and came

into the coasts of Judæa beyond the Jordan; 2And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them

there. And the Pharisees came to him, tempting him, and saying, Is it lawful to put away one's wife for every cause? 4And he answering said, Have ye not read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, 5And said, On this account shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and the two shall be one flesh? 6So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7They say to him, Why then did Moses command to give a deed of divorcement, and to put away? 8Jesus saith to them, Moses, because of your hard-heartedness, suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9But I say to you, Whoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery. 10The disciples say, If thus it is the defect of the man with the wife, it is not expedient to marry. 11But he said to them, All receive not this saying but those to whom it has been given. 12There are eunuchs who were born so from the womb of their mother, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it.

13Then were brought to him little children, that he might lay his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said to them, Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come to me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And having laid his hands on them, he departed thence. 16And, behold, one coming to him said, Teacher, what good shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life? 17 And he said to him, Why askest thou me concerning the good? One is the Good; but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18He saith, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19Honour thy father and mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20The young man saith to him, All these things have I kept: in what do I yet fail? 21Jesus said to him, If thou wishest to become perfect, go, sell thy possessions, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have

treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 22 But the young man having heard, went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions. 23Then said Jesus to his disciples, Verily I say to you, That a rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man into the kingdom of God. 25The disciples having heard this were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus having looked, said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. 27Then Peter answering, said to him, behold, we have forsaken all and followed thee; what then shall we have? 28 And Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, That ye who have followed me in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And every one who forsook brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, on account of my name, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30But many first shall be last; and last, first.

FOR the kingdom of heaven is like to a man, a

householder, who went out with the dawn to hire labourers into his vineyard. 2And having agreed with the labourers for a denarius the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace. 4And he said to them; Go ye also into my vineyard, and whatever may be just I will give to you. And they went away. 5And again going out about the sixth and ninth hour he did in like manner. 6And about the eleventh hour going out he found others standing, and he saith to them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 7 They say to him, Because no one hath hired us. saith to them, Go ye also into the vineyard. 8 Now when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the labourers, and pay the hire, beginning from the last until the first.
