I know the season is not long,
Ere I put off this fleshly vest,
And join the everlasting song
Where disembodied spirits rest.

EPAPHRAS.

JESUS MY ALL.

Whate'er my daily trials be,
Lord, let me have my all in thee,
I ask no greater bliss;

The worldling then may keep his toys,
And perish in his fleeting joys,

If thou wilt grant me this.

When earthly troubles bear me down,
And providences seem to frown,
If faith discerns thy voice,
Though billow upon billow swell,
My heart shall witness, "all is well,"
And in her Lord rejoice.

When fell disease and wasting pain
Convince me human aid is vain,
My soul is kept in peace;
Provided only Thou art near,
My heart shall smile at Nature's fear,
And welcome my release.

When weeping o'er the sheeted dead,
I mourn some kindred Spirit fled,
'Tis only nature weeps;

For cradled in thy watchful care,
My spirit loves to think them there,
Where each in Jesus sleeps.

1 THESSALONIANS V.-3.

EPAPHRAS.

"For when they shall say, peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh on them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."

Great bishop of thy blood-bought fold
Compassionate this sinful land;

For consecrated thou to hold

The seven stars in thy right hand.
Reveal thyself, thou God of might
To eyes that do not, cannot see;
That each may prove a "burning light"
To minister the word for thee.

Prepare us for the coming day

When thou shalt "take thy pow'r to reign;"
When anti-christ shall melt away,

And earth shall league her tribes in vain.

Lord! keep us from the dream of peace,
That fatal calm by Satan shed;
Let faith and hope, and joy encrease
By thy sure word of promise fed.

The storm of wrath precedes the calm,
Thy written truth proclaims it so ;
But leaning on thy faithful arm,

Thy church shall smile, though all should go.

Her hidden treasure is not here

Where moth might fret or rust corrode;

Though thieves break through, she need not fear
Her riches are in thy abode.
