EARLY DEW UPON THE TENDER PLANT; OR, EASY SCRIPTURE LESSONS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. WITH QUESTIONS AND PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION, AND AN APPROPRIATE HYMN FOR EACH LESSON. BY THE AUTHOR OF "SOFT SHOWERS." THIRD THOUSAND. BATH; BINNS AND GOODWIN. LONDON NISBET AND CO.; WHITTAKER AND CO.; EDINBURGH; OLIVER AND BOYD. DUBLIN; J. M‘GLASHAN. 1853. +1 d. 392. PREFACE. To inculcate a love for the Holy Scriptures in the hearts of young children, especially to make the Gospel Narrative of the life and words of the blessed Jesus interesting and intelligible to them, and to educe therefrom such instruction as their minds may be capable of receiving and assimilating, is the purpose of this little book. The attainment of this object is sought a by presenting, in a series of lessons, (not so long as to be tedious to the child), the history of Christ the Saviour, his works and ways, in the simple yet impressive language of Scripture; while, at the close of each, a number of questions is added, calculated to explain the lesson: followed by a few practical remarks, designed to impress the truths of the gospel upon the mind of the pupil. For the purpose of showing the circumstances of the Saviour's life in the order in which they occurred, the narratives of the four Evangelists have been collated, and a consecutive history compiled therefrom. |
