and Coming of the Son of Man.
MT. xxiv. 1-44; Mx. xiii. 1-37; Lu. xxi. 5-36.
Geography: Mount Olivet.

[Commit to memory verses 1-14.]

MATT. 24. 1-And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple:

MARK 13. 1-And as he went out,

MATT. 24. 1-his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

LUKE 21. 5-And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts,

MARK 13. 1-one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings?

LUKE 21.6-As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which,

MATT. 24. 2-verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Christ warns of coming calamities.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, MARK 13, 3-over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

LUKE 21. 7-saying, Master,

MATT. 24, 3-Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world,

MARK 13. 4-when all these things shall be fulfilled?

MATT. 24. 4-And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ,

LUKE 21. 8-and the time draweth near:

COMING CALAMITIES.

MATT. 24. 5-and shall deceive many;

LUKE 21, 8-go ye not therefore after them. 9 But when ye shall hear of wars,

MATT. 24, 6-and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must LUKE 21. 9-first come to pass; but the end MATT. 24, 6-is not yet.

LUKE 21. 10-Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;

MATT. 24, 7-and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places; LUKE 21. 11-and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

MATT. 24, 8-All these are the beginning of

sorrows.

MARK 13. 9-But take heed to yourselves;

LUKE 21, 12-before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you;

MARK 13. 9-for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

MATT. 24.9-And (they) shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. MARK 13. 10-And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

LUKE 21, 15-For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

MATT. 24. 10-And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

LUKE 21. 16-And ye shall be betrayed both

LUKE 20. 13-It may be they will reverence him* when they see him.

14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and

killed him.

MATT. 21, 40-When the Lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.+.

LUKE 20. 16-And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

17 And het beheld them, and said

MATT. 21. 42-unto them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a iation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

+He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. Luke xx. 16. The Jews answered our Lord's question, as David did Nathan's, not perceiving the application to themselves; but Christ repeated their reply with expressive pointedness to themselves, using these (the people present) for those; which when they heard, they said, "God forbid."

MARK 12. 12-for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

Lesson 78.-The Marriage Suppei,
MATTHEW Xxii. 1-14.

Of Tribute to Cæsar.

MT. xxii. 15-22; Mk. xii. 13-17; Lu. xx. 20-26.
Geography: In the temple.

[Commit to memory Mt.22. 1-10, or 11-14.] MATT. 22. 1-And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not

come.

4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Concerning tribute to Cæsar.

MATT. 22. 15-Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his

talk.

LUKE 20. 20-And they watched him, and sent forth spies,

MARK 12. 13-certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians,

LUKE 20. 20-which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.

MARK 12, 14-And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true,

MATT. 22. 16-and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men,

MARK 12. 14-but teachest the way of God in

truth.

MATT. 22, 17-Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Cæsar, or

not?

MARK 12, 15-Shall we give, or shall we not give?
