CHAP. III. 5 The Levites fervice. 40 The firft-born freed. charge, number, Gerfhon by their families; Libni, and Shimei. 19 And the fons of Kohath by their fami lies; Amram, and Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel 20 And the fons of Merari by their fami lies; Mahli, and Mufhi: thefe are the fami. lies of the Levites, according to the house of their fathers. 21 Of Gerthon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: thefe are the families of the Gerfhonites. 22 Thofe that were numbred of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, even thote that were numbred of them, were feven thousand and five hundred. 23 The families of the Gershonites thall Tand Moles, in the day shut the LORD in And the chip on the well-ward that fpake with Mofes in mount Sinai. 24 of the house of the father of the Gershonites, fhall be Eliafaph the fon of Lael. 2 And these are the names of the fons of Aaron; Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 Thefe are the names of the fons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he conlecrated to minifter in the priests office. 4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered ftrange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar miniftred in the priests office, in the fight of Aaron their father. And the LORD fake unto one pacient Bring the tribe of Levi near, and prefent them before Aaron the priest, that they may minifter unto him. 7 And they fhall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the fervice of the tabernacle. 8 And they fhall keep all the inftruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Ifrael, to do the fervice of the tabernacle. 9 And thou thalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his fons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Ifrael." 10 And thou fhalt appoint Aaron and his fons, and they fhall wait on their priests of fice and the stranger that cometh nigh, fhall be put to death. 11 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 12 And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Ifrael, inftead of all the first-born that openeth the matrice among the children of Ifrael: therefore the Levites fhall be mine, 13 Because all the firft-born are mine; Gerihon, and Kohath, and Merari. 18 And there are the naties of the fons of 25 And the charge of the fons of Gershon, in the tabernacle of the congregation, fhall be the tabernacle, and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: 26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it, for all the fervice thereof. 27 And of Kohath us the family of the and the family the family of the Izeharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: thefe are the families of the Kohathites. 28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand and fix hundred, keeping the charge of the fanctuary. 29 The families of the fons of Kohath fhall pitch on the fide of the tabernacle fouthward. 30 And the chief of the houfe of the father of the families of the Kohathites, shall be Elizaphan the fon of Uzziel. 31 And their charge fhall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the veffels of the fanctuary wherewith they minifter, and the hanging, and all the fervice thereof. 32 And Eleazar the fon of Aaron the priest, fhall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the overfight of them that keep the charge of the fanctuary. 334 Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mufhites: thefe are the families of Merari. 34 And thofe that were numbred of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, were fix thoufand and two hundred. 35 And the chief of the houfe of the father. of the families of Merari, was Zuriel the fon of Abihail: thefe fhall pitch on the fide of the tabernacle north-ward. 36 And under the cuftody and charge of the fons of Merari, fhall be the boards of the tabernacle,and the bars thereof,and the pillars thereof, and the fockets thereof, and all the veffels thereof, and all that fer eth thereto, 37 And the pillars of the court round a bout, and their fockets, and their pins, and their cords. 38 9 But and Service of the Levites. take down the covering veil, and cover the ark of teftimony with it: Chap. iv. 384 But thofe that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation, east-ward, fhall be Mofes and Aaron, and his fons, keeping the charge of the fanctuary, for the charge of the children of Ifrael; 47 Thou shalt even take five thekels apiece by the poll, after the fhekel of the fanctuary thalt thou take them: the fhekel is twenty gerahs. 48 And thou fhalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to his fons. 49 And Mofes took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites. 50 Of the firft-born of the children of Ifrael took he the money; a thoufand three hundred and threefcore and five shekels,after the fhekel of the fanctuary. 51 And Mofes gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron, and to his fons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moles. CHAP. IV. 1 The Levites fervice, 17 and office. 6. And fhall put thereon the covering of badgers skins, and fhall fpread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and fhall put in the ftaves thereof. 7 And upon the table of fhew-bread they fhallpread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dilhes, and the fpoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the conti nual bread fhall be thereon. 8 And they fhall fpread upon them a cloth of fcarlet, and cover the fame with a covering of badgers skins, and fhall put in the ftaves thereof. 9 And they fhall take a cloth of blue, and cover the candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, and his inuff-dishes, and all the oyl-veffels thereof, wherewith they minifter unto it. 10 And they fhall put it and all the veffels thereof within a covering of badgers skins, and fhall put it upon a bar. 11 And upon the golden altar they shall fpread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers skins, and shall put to the ftaves thereof. 12 And they fhall take all the inftruments of miniftry, wherewith they minifter in the fanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers skins, and fhall put them on a bar. 13 And they fhall take away the afhes from the altar, and fpread a purple cloth thereon: 14 And they fhall put upon it all the vel fels thereof, wherewith they minifter about it, even the cenfers, the flem-hooks, and the fhovels, and the batons all the veffels of the altar; and they fhall fpread upon it a covering of badgers skins, and put to the ftaves of it. 15 And when Aaron and his fons have made an end of covering the fanctuary, and all the veffels of the fanctuary, as the camp is to let forward; after that, the fons of Kohath thall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, left they die.
