This Work is faid to be written by the Author of Perfeis. In the Fourth and Fifth Letters, after fhewing that it is the Intereft of France to weaken the House of Auftria, the following Questions are difcuffed.- - Ift. Whether the Conduct of France, at the Death of Charles VIth, was agreeable to her Intereft. 2d. Whether it is reconcilable to the Rules of Equity.

3d. Whether the Way fhe purfued her Ends was the shorteft and the fafeft.-4th. Whether she acted agreeably to her Intereft and Syftem, in not oppofing the Election of the Grand Duke, to the utmost of her Power. The Author does not fcruple to fay, that after the Guarantee of the Pragmatic-Sanction, Cardinal Fleury expofed the Honour of his Nation and the Glory of his Mafter, by making him break fo folemn an Engagement.

Shewing that Efau was better then Jacob; and the 3d. to clear Balaam of what has been imputed to him.

Mr. Smith's Natural, Civil, and Ecclefiaftical Hiftory of Waterford is come out, as is, Juvenal by Mr. Hawkey. The Sets on Royal Paper are as beautiful as Horace and Terence.

The Revd. Mr. Defvoeux, intends to Publish immediately, a Tranflation of the Life of the Emperor Julian, from the French, of Father La Bletterie, with the following additional Differtations; on Julian's Religion,-Mardonius, the religious Syftem of Philofophers at that Time, the feveral Methods whereby they apologized for Paganism,their pretended Ma gick,-Julian's Perfecution, and the State of ChriAtianity in his Time.
