CHAP. VI. Concerning the DUTY of MAN to GOD. a A In GENERAL. LL the Ends of the World shall remember and turn unto the Lord: all Dominions shall serve, and obey him. b All Nations whom thou hast made, shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and fhall glorifie thy Name. c As I live, faith the Lord, every Knee shall bow to me, and every Tongue shall confefs to God. d None of us liveth to himself, and no Man dieth to himself. For, whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. And we are not our own; for we are bought with a Price. Let us therefore glorifie God, in our Body, and in our Spirit, which are God's. e Let us have Grace whereby we may ferve God acceptably; ferving him with our Spirit, in the Gofpel of his Son. G5 Rom 14.11. a Let a Let us, also, present our Bodies a living Sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable Service. b For the Love of Christ constraineth us, who died for all; that they, which live, should not, henceforth, live unto themselves, but unto him. which died for them, and rose again, Wherewith shall I come before the Lord) and bow my self before the High God? Shall I come before him with Burnt-Offerings, with Calves of a Year old ? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of Rams, or ten thousands of Rivers of Oil? Shall I give my First-born for my Tranfgreffion, the Fruit of my Body for the Sin of my Soul?: He hath shewed thee, O Man, what is good; and, what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love Mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. d The Grace of God, that bringeth Salvation, hath appeared to all Men; teaching us, that denying Ungodliness, and worldly Lufts, we should live føberly, righteously, and godly in this pre-fent World. e The Lord hath desired Mercy, and not Sacrifice; and the Knowledge of God, more than Burnt-Offerings. f What God hath cleanfed, that call not thou common. & Meat commendeth us not to God: For, neither if we eat, are we the better; neither if we eat not, are we the worse, For, the Kingdom 1 of God is not Meat, and Drink; but Righteoufness, and Peace, and Joy, in the Holy Ghoft. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatfoever ye do, do all to the Glory of God. a Whatsoever ye do, in Word or Deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus. b Stand faft in the Liberty, wherewith Chrift hath made us free, and be not intangled again with the Yoke of Bondage. • The Wicked have said, Who is Lord over us? Through the Pride of their Countenance, they will not feek after God: God is not in all their Thoughts. Thy Judgments, O Lord, are far above out of their Sight: for they say, the Lord feeth us not, the Lord hath forsaken the Earth: And none of them faith, Where is God, my Maker? d But they that have thus forgot, or contemned God; and the Enemies of Christ, which would not that he should reign over them, shall be turned into Hell. e Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. f Prepare your Hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only. Take heed to your selves, that your Heart be not deceived, and ye turn afide, and ferve other Gods, and worship them. & Thus faith the Lord, Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. Thou shalt know no Exod, 20. 1, 3. Hof. 13. 4.. G6 a Col. 3.17. Pf. 10. 4, 5. Ezek. 8. 12. Pf. 10. 13. Luke 19 27. 1 Sam. 7. 3. Neither worship Idols of Gold, or Silver, or Brass, or Stone, or Wood, which neither can fee, nor hear, nor walk. b Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven Image, or any Likeness of any Thing that is in Heaven above, or that is in the Earth beneath, or that is in the Water under the Earth. Neither shall ye fet up any Image, to bow down unto it; the Similitude of any Figure, the Likeness of Male or Female, the Likeness of any Beast, Fowl, Fish, or any thing that creepeth on the Ground. For Idols are Vanity, the Work of Errors: Molten Images are Wind, and Confufion: and, they are without Excuse, who, when they know God, worship him not as God, but change the Glory of the uncorruptible God, into an Image, made like to corruptible Man, and to Birds, and fourfooted Beasts, and creeping things. c Take ye good heed unto your selves, left ye corrupt your selves, and left ye lift up your Eyes unto Heaven, and, when ye fee the Sun, and the Moon, and the Stars, even all the Hoft of Heaven, ye should be driven to worship them, and ferve them. d If I beheld the Sun when it shined, or the Moon, walking in Brightness, and my Heart hath been fecretly enticed, or my Mouth hath kissed my Hand; this were an Iniquity to be punish'd by the Judge, for I should have denied the God that is above. 2 Lev. 19. 4. And, what Concord hath Chrift with Belial? b Let no Man beguile you of your Reward, in a voluntary Humility, and worshipping of Angels, or Men of like Paffions with you. • Dearly beloved, flee from Idolatry; and serve the living and true God, who made Heaven and Earth; and worship no other God. Neither do ye Service unto them, which, by Nature, are no Gods; nor change the Truth of God into a Lie; nor serve the Creature more than the Creator; for the Lord is a jealous God. d O Lord our God, other Lords besides thee have had Dominion over us; but by thee only, will we make mention of thy Name. For, every one which feparateth himself from thee, and fetteth up Idols in his Heart, shall bear the Punishment of his Iniquity. • Ye shall not use Inchantment, nor observe Times. f Regard not them that have familiar Spirits; neither feek after Wizards, to be defiled by them.
