*The Miniftration of private BAPTISM of Children in Houses. THE

HE Curates of every Parish hall often admonish the People that they defer not the Baptifm of their Children longer than the first or second Sunday next after their Birth, or other Holy-day falling between unless upon a great and teafnable cauft, to be approved by the Curate.

And alfo they fall warn them, that without like great cause and neceffity they procure not their Children to be B ptized at home in their boufes. But when need fhall compel them fo to do, then Baptifm fhall be adminif tered on this fashion : First, let the Minister of the Parish (or in his abfence, any other lawful Minifler that can be procured) with them that are prefent, call upon God, and fay the Lords Prayer, and fo many of the Collects appointed to be faid before in the Form of Public Baptifm, as the time and prefent exigence will fuffer. And then, the Child being named by fome one that is prefent, the Minister shall pour water upon it, jaying these words :

I baptize thee, In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Gholt. Amen."

Then all kneeling down, the Minifter fhall give thanks unto God and fry.

E yield thee hearty thanks, mott merciful Father, that it hath pleafed thee to regenerate this Infant with thy Holy Spirit to receive him for thine own Child by adoption, and to incorporate him into thy holy Church. And we humbly befeech thee to grant, that as he is now made partaker of the death of thy Son, fo he may be alfo of his refurrection; and that finally, with the refidue of thy Saints, he may inherit thine everlafting kingdom, through the fame thy. Son Jelus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

!! End let them not doubt, but that the Child so haptized, is lawfully and fufficiently baptized, and ought not to be baptized again. Yet nevertheless, if the Child, which is after this fort baptized, do afterward live, it is expedient that it be brought into the church, to the intent that if the Minifler of the jame Parish did himself baptize that Child, the Com. gregation may be certified of the true Form of Baptism, by him privately before used: In which cafe be shall say that, I Certify you, that according to the due and prescribed Order of the Church, at fuch a time, and at fuch a place, before divers witnesses I baptized this Child. THE People are to be admonished, that it is most convenient that Baptifm fhould not be administered but upon Sundays, and other Holy-days, when the most number of People come together: as well for that the Congregation there prefent may ify the receiving of them that be newly baptized into the number of Chrifts Church; as also because in the Baptifm of Infants, every man prefent may be put in remembrance of his own profeffion made to God in his Baptifm. For which caufe alfo it is expedient that Baptifm he ministered in the Vulgar Torgue. Nevertheless (if neceffity fo require) Children may be baptized upon any other day.

And note, That there shall be for every Male-Child to be baptized, two Godfathers and one Godmother: and for every Fema e, one Godfather and two Godmothers.

When there are children to be baptized, the Parents fhall give knowledge thereof over Night, or in the Morning before the beginning of Morning Prayer, to the Curate. And then the Godfathers and Godmothers, and the People with the Children, must be ready at the Font, either immediately after the laft Leffon at Morning Prayer, or elfe immediately. after the laft Leffon at Evening Prayer, as the Curate by his difcretion shall appoint. And the Priest coming to the Font (which is then to be filed with pure Water) and standing there, shall, jay,
