1 Cor. 1. 4.

Thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; that in every thing ye are enriched by him in all utterance, and in all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you; So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel. S. Matth. 22. 34.

HEN the Pharisees had heard that Jesus had put the Sadducees to filence, they were gathered together. Then one of them who was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, ‡ Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy foul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. While the Pharifees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He faith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his Son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man (from that day forth) ask him any more questions.

The Epistle. Ephef. 4. 17. THIS HIS I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind; having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling, have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ: if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off, concerning the former conversation, *the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lufts; and be re

The old Man. Signines those evil Habits which the Ephesians had to long practifed in the state of Hea

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour; for we are members one of another. + Be ye angry, and fin not. Let not the fun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole, steal no more; but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are fealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil-speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiv-ing one another, even as God for Christs fake hath forgiven you. The Gospel. S. Matth. 9. 1.

And Jesus seeing their faith, faid unto the fick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer, thy fins be forgiven thee. And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves,, This man blafphemeth. And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is eafier to say, $Thy fins be forgiven thee? or to fay, Arife, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive fins, (then faith he to the fick of the palsy) Arife, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth; and he fent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burnt up their city. Then faith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were bidden, were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the high-ways, and gathered together all, as many as they found both bad and good; and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to fee the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment. And he faith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
