S IR, My neighbour Neophytus and I having lately had fome conference with this our friend and acquaintance Antinomista about fome points of religion; wherein he differing from us both, at laft faid, He would be contented to be judged by you our minifter: therefore have we made bold to come unto you, all three not the strict profeffor according to the law, whilft h hath ftriven to reduce the loofe profeffor according to the gofpel, out of the Antinomian path, intangled both himself and others the faster in the yoke of bondage Gal. v. I. And hath not the loofe profeffor according to the gospel, whilft he hath ftriven to reduce the ftrict profeffor according to the law out of the legal path, by promifing liberty from the law, taught others, and been himself the fervant of corruption? 2 Pet. ii. 19. For this caufe I, though I be nothing, have, by the grace of God, endeavoured, in this dialogue, to walk as a middle man betwixt them both; in fhewing to each of them his erroneous path, with the middle path (which is Jefus Chrift received truly, and walked in anfwerably) (n) as a means to bring them both unto him, and make them both one in him and oh ! that the Lord would be pleased so to bless it to them, that it might be a means to produce that effect. I have (as you may fee) gathered much of it out of known and approved authors; and yet have therein wronged no man; for I have reftored it to the right owner again in the margin. Wherefore it : nefs is but pretended, and not true, holinefs, fince he hath not received Chrift truly, and therefore is incapable of walking in Chrift, which is the only true holiness competent to fallen Mankind.
