40 ¶ Now the fojourning of the children of Ifrael, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

41 And it came to pass, at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the felf-fame day it came to pafs, that all the hofts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

42 It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD, for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be obferved of all the children of Ifrael in their generations.

43 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the paffover: there fhall no ftranger eat thereof.

44 But every man's fervant that is bought for money, when thou haft circumcifed him, then fhall he eat thereof.

45 A foreigner, and an hired fervant shall not eat thereof.

46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the fleth abroad out of

3¶And Mofes faid unto the people, RememLuke 2. 23. ber this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, + Heb. out of the house of + bondage; for by ftrength fervants. of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there fhall no leavened bread be eaten.

4 This day came ye out, in the month Abib. 5¶And it fhall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and, the Jebufites, which he fware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey; that thou shalt keep this fervice in this month.

6 Seven days fhalt thou eat unleavened bread, and in the feventh day shall be a feaft to the LORD.

7 Unleavened bread fhall be eaten feven days: and there fhall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven feen with thee in all thy quarters.

8 And thou shalt fhew thy fon in that day, faying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me, when I came forth out of Egypt.

9 And it fhall be for a fign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes; that the LORD's law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.

10 Thou thalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year.

And it fhall be, when the LORD fhall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he fware unto thee and to thy fathers, and fhall give it thee,

16 And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by ftrength of hand the LORD brought us forthout of Egypt.

17 ¶ And it came to pafs, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. for God faid, Left peradventure || Or, by the people repent when they fee war, and they five in a return to Egypt.

CHAP. XIV.

1 God inftructeth the Ifraelites in their journey. 5 Pharaoh purfueth after them. 10 The Ifraelites murmur. 13 Mofes comforteth them. 15 God infructeth Mofes. 19 The cloud removeth behind the camp. 21 The Ifraelites pass through the Red fea, 23 which drowneth the Egyptians.

ND the LORD fpake unto Moles, faying, 2 Speak unto the children of Ifrael, that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the fea, over against Baal zephon: before it fhall ye encamp by the fea.

3 For Pharaoh will fay of the children of Ifrael, They are intangled in the land, the wildernefs hath thut them in.

4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he fhall follow after them, and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his hoft; that the Egyptians may know, that I am the LORD. And they did fo.

5¶And it was told the king of Egypt, that the people fled and the heart of Pharaoh and of his fervants was turned against the people, and they faid, Why have we done this, that we have let Ifrael go from ferving us?

6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him.

7 And he took fix hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.

8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he purfued after the children of Ifrael: and the children of Ifrael went out with an high hand.

9 But the Egyptians pursued after them (all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horfemen, and his army) and overtook them encamping by the fea, befide Pi-hahiroth before Baal-zephon.

To And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Ifrael lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them, and they were fore afraid: and the children of Ifrael <cried out unto the LORD.

11 And they said unto Mofes, Because there were no graves in Egypt, haft thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Wherefore haft thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?

12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, faying, Let us alone, that we may ferve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to ferve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

13 ¶ And Mofes faid unto the people, Fear ye not, ftand ftill, and fee the falvation of the Or, for LORD, which he will fhew to you to-day: || for whereas you bavefeen the the Egyptians whom ye have feen to-day, ye Egyptians fhall fee them again no more for ever.

17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they fhall follow them : and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his hoft, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

18 And the Egyptians fhall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horfe

19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Ifrael, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and flood behind them.

20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Ifrael, and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to thefe: fo that the one came not near the other all the night.

21 And Moles ftretched out his hand over the fea, and the LORD caufed the fea to go back by a ftrong eaft wind all that night, and made the fea dry land, and the waters were divid- & Josh. 4. ed. Pfal. 114. 3.

28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the hoft of Pharaoh, that came into the fea after them: there remained not fo much as one of them.

30 Thus the LORD faved Ifrael that day out of the hand of the Egyptians: and Ifrael faw the Egyptians dead upon the fea-fhore.

31 And Ifrael faw that great + work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his fervant Mofes.

20 And Miriam the prophetess, the fifter of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her, with timbrels, and with dances.

21 And Miriam anfwered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the fea.

22 So Mofes brought Ifrael from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur: and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah; for they were bitter therefore the name of it was called Marah.

26 And faid, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his fight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his ftatutes; I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

27¶ And they came to Elim, where were Numb. 33, twelve wells of water, and threefcore and ten 9, palm-trees and they encamped there by the

waters.

CHAP. XVI..

1 The Ifraelites come to Sin. 2 They murmur for want of bread. 4 God promifeth them bread from heaven. 11 Quails are fent, 14 and manna. 16 The ordering of manna: 25 It was not to be found on the fabbath: 32 An omer of it is preferved.

ND they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Ifrael came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the fecond month after their departing out of the.. land of Egypt.

2 And the whole congregation of the children of Ifrael murmured against Mofes and Aaron in the wilderness.

3 And the children of Ifrael faid unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we fat by. the flesh-pots, and when we did eat bread to the full: for ye have brought us forth into this wil

4¶Then faid the LORD unto Moles, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people fhall go out and gather + a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

5 And it fhall come to pafs, that on the fixth day, they shall prepare that which they bring in ; and it thall be twice as much as they gather daily.

6 And Mofes and Aaron faid unto all the children of Ifrael, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt.

7 And in the morning, then ye fhall fee the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: And what are we, that ye murmur against us?

8 And Mofes faid, This fhall be when the LORD fhall give you in the evening fleth to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: And what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

9¶ And Mofes fpake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Ifrael, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.

10 And it came to pafs as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Ifrael, that they looked toward the wilderness, and bea Chap. 13. hold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

23 And he faid unto them, This is that which the LORD hath faid, To-morrow is the rest of the holy fabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake, to-day, and feethe that ye will feethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Mofes bade: and it did not ftink, neither was there any worm therein.

25 And Mofes faid, Eat that to-day; for today is a fabbath unto the LORD: to-day ye fhall not find it in the field.

26 Six days ye fhall gather it; but on the feventh day, which is the labbath, in it there shall be none.

27 And it came to pafs, that there went out fome of the people on the feventh day for to gather, and they found none.

28 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the fabbath, therefore he giveth you on the fixth day the bread of two days: abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the feventh day.

30 So the people refted on the seventh day. 31 And the house of Ifrael called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander-feed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32 ¶ And Mofes faid, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may fee the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

33 And Mofes faid unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.

34 As the LORD commanded Mofes, fo Aaron laid it up before the teftimony, to be kept.

35 And the children of Ifrael did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited: f Joh. 5.12. they did eat manna, until they came unto the Neh. 9. 15. borders of the land of Canaan.

14 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Ifrael; whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.

10 And Jethro faid, Bieffed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

II Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly, he was above them.

12 And Jethro, Mofes' father-in-law, took a burnt-offering, and facrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Ifrael to eat bread with Mofes' father-in-law before God.

13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Mofes fat to judge the people: and the people stood by Mofes, from the morning unto the evening.

14 And when Mofes' father-in-law faw all that he did to the people, he faid, What is this thing that thou doelt to the people? Why fitteft thou thyfelf alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

15 And Mofes faid unto his father-in-law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God.
