CHAP. I.

The genealogy of Chrift from Abraham to Jofeph: 18 He was conceived by the Holy Ghost, and born of the virgin Mary, when he was espoused to Jofeph. 19 The angel fatisfieth the mifdeeming thoughts of Jofeph, and interpreteth the names of Chrift.

2 b Abraham begat Ifaac; and Ifaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

3 And Judas begat Phares, and Zara of Thamar;

and Phares begat Efrom; and Efrom begat Aram;

4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naaffon; and Naaffon begat Salmon;

5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jeffe;

6 And Jeffe begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

19 Then Jofeph her husband, being a juft man, and not willing to make her a publick ex- countcalled ample, was minded to put her away privily.

24 Then Jofeph, being raifed from fleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 And knew her not till fhe had brought forth her first-born fon; and he called his name JESUS.

CHA P. II.

The wife-men out of the east are directed to Christ by a star. 11 They worship him, and offer their prefents. 14 Jofeph fleeth into Egypt, with Jefus and his mother. 16 Herod flayeth the children. 20 Himfelf dieth. 23 Chrift is brought back again into Galilee to Nazareth.

18 Now the birth of Jefus Chrift was on this wife: When as his mother Mary was

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his ftar in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 When Herod the king had heard thefe things, he was troubled, and all Jerufalem with him.

4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Chrift should be born.

5 And they faid unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea for thus it is written by the prophet,

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the ftar which they law in the east went before them, till it came and ftood over where the young child was. 10 When they faw the ftar, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 ¶ And when they were come into the house, they faw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treafures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincenfe, and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream, that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Jofeph in a dream, faying, Arife, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will feek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arofe, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 And was there until the death of Herod : that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Hofea 11. Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my ion.

16 Then Herod, when he faw that he was mocked of the wife-men, was exceeding wroth, and fent forth, and flew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coafts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wife-men.

17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by. Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Jofeph in Egypt,

20 Saying, Arife, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Ifrael: for they are dead which fought the young child's life.

21 And he arofe, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Ifrael.

22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea, in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned afide into the parts of Galilee.

23 And he came and dwelt in a city called. Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was fpoken by the prophets, He fhall be called a Nazarene.

CHA P. III.

John preacheth: 4 His office, life, and baptifm. 7 He reprehendeth the Pharifees, 13 and baptizeth Chrift in Jordan.

7 But when he faw many of the Pharifees and Sadducees come to his baptifm, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits || meet for re- | Or, anpentance:

9 And think not to fay within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I fay unto you, that God is able of these ftones to raise up children unto Abraham.

15 And Jefus answering, faid unto him, Suffer it to be jo now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteoufnefs. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jefus, when he was baptized, went up ftraightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he faw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.

17 And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Christ beginneth to preach:

His fermon in the monnt, thofe which were lunatick, and thofe that had Anno the pally; and he healed them.

Chap. v. Anno 4 But he answered and faid, It is written, Domini Man fhall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedech out of the mouth of God.

19 And he faith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they ftraightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he faw other two brethren, James the fon of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a fhip with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

23¶ And Jefus went about all Galilee, teaching in their fynagogues, and preaching the gofpel of the kingdon, and healing all manner of fickness, and all manner of difeafe among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all fick people that were taken with divers difeafes and torments, and those which were poffcffed with devils, and

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people, from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerufalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan. CHAP. V.

1 Chrift beginneth his fermon in the mount: 3 declaring who are bieffed, 13 who are the falt of the earth, 14 the light of the world, the city on an hill: 15 the candle: 17 that he came to fulfil the law. 21 What it is to kill, 27 to commit adultery, 33 to fwear: 38 exhorteth to fuffer wrong, 44 to love even our enemies, 48 and to labour after perfectness.

ND feeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him.
