26 And the LORD faid, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their fakes.

27 And Abraham answered and faid, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but duft and athes.

28 Peradventure there fhall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou deftroy all the city for Lack of five? And he faid, If I find there forty and five, I will not deftroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again, and faid, Peradventure there fhall be forty found there. And he faid, I will not do it for forty's fake.

30 And he faid unto him, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there fhall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he faid, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there fhall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not deftroy it for twenty's fake.

32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten fhall be found there. And he said, 1 will not destroy it for ten's fake.

33 And the LORD went his way, as foon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

CHAP. XIX.

1 Lot entertaineth two angels. 4 The vicious Sodomites are firicken with blindness. 12 Lot is fent for fafety into the mountain. 18 He obtaineth leave to go into Zoar. 24 Sodom and Gomorrah are defiroyed. 26 Lot's wife is a pillar of falt. 30 Lot dwelleth in a cave. 31 The inceftuous original of Moab and Ammon.

AND there came two angels to Sodom at

even; and Lot fat in the gate of Sodom : and Lot feeing them, rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your fervant's houfe, and Chap. 18. tarry all night, and a wash your feet, and ye fhall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they faid, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

3 And he preffed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house: and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

4 ¶ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compaffed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter.

5 And they called unto Lot, and faid unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and thut the door after him,

7 And faid, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the fhadow of my roof.

9 And they faid, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to fojourn, and he will needs be a judge: Now will we deal worfe with thee, than with them. And they preffed fore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and fhut to the door.

11 And they fmote the men that were at the Wild. 19} door of the house with blindness, both fmall and 17. great fo that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12 ¶ And the men faid unto Lot, Haft thou here any befides? fon-in-law, and thy fons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou haft in the city, bring them out of this place.

13 For we will deftroy this place because the cry of them is waxen great before the face Chap. 18 of the LORD, and the LORD hath sent us to de- 20. ftroy it.

14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his fonsin-law, which married his daughters, and faid, Up, get ye out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city: but he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law.

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels haftened Lot, faying, Arife, take thy wife, and thy two daughters which + are here; left † Heb. thou be confumed in the | iniquity of the city. are found. 16 And while he lingered, the men laid, punifbment. hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of Wild. 10. his wife, and upon the hand of his two daugh- 6. ters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and fet him without the city.

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he faid, Efcape for thy life: look not behind thee, neither ftay thou in all the plain: escape to the mountain, left thou be confumed.

18 And Lot faid unto them, Oh not so, my Lord!

19 Behold now, thy fervant hath found grace in thy fight, and thou haft magnified thy mercy, which thou haft fhewed unto me in faving my life and I cannot escape to the mountain, left fome evil take me, and I die.

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh let me escape thither, (Is it not a little one?) and my foul fhall live.

21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing alfo, that I + Heb. will not overthrow this city, for the which thou thy face. haft spoken.

32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preferve feed of our father.

33 And they made their father drink wine that night and the firft-born went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when the arose.

34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firft-born faid unto the younger, Behold, I lay yefternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night alfo; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preferve feed of our father.

35 And they made their father drink wine that night alfo and the younger arofe, and lay with him; and he perceived not when the lay down, nor when the arose.

36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37 And the first-born bare a fon, and called his name Moab: the fame is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and faid unto him, What haft thou done unto us? and. what have I offended thee, that thou haft brought on me and on my kingdom a great fin? thou haft done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

10 And Abimelech faid unto Abraham, What faweft thou, that thou haft done this thing?

1 And Abraham faid, Becaufe I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will flay me for my wife's fake.

12 And yet indeed he is my fifter; the is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother and she became my wife.

13 And it came to país, when God caufed me to wander from my father's house, that I faid unto her, This is thy kindnefs which thou shalt fhew unto me; At every place whither we shall come, a fay of me, He is my brother.

26 And Abimelech faid, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didft thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to-day.

27 And Abraham took fheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech : and both of them made a covenant.

28 And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 And Abimelech faid unto Abraham, What' mean these seven ewe-lambs, which thou haft set by themselves?

30 And he faid, For thefe feven ewe-lambs fhalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witnefs unto me, that I have digged this well.

31 Wherefore he called that place Beer- That is, fheba: because there they fware both of them. the well of 32 Thus they made a covenant at Beer-fheba: the oath. cir. 1891. then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his hoft, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

33 ¶ And Abraham planted a grove in Beer- Or, tree. fheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

CHAP. XXII.

1 Abraham is tempted to offer Ifaac: 3 He giveth proof of his faith and obedience: 11 The angel Stayeth him. 13 Ifaac is exchanged with a ram. 14 The place is called Jehovah-jireh. 15 Abraham is bleffed again, 20 The generation of Nahor unto Rebekah.

AND it came to pafs after these things, that

1 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the fons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13 And he fpake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, faying, But if thou wilt give

20 And the field, and the cave that is therein were made fure unto Abraham, for a poffeffion of a burying-place, by the fons of Heth.

CHAP. XXIV.

Abraham fweareth his fervant: 10 The fervant's journey: 12 His prayer: 14 His fign, 15 Re"bekah meeteth him, 18 fulfilleth bis fign, 22 receiveth jewels, 23 fheweth her kindred, 25 and inviteth him home. 26 The fervant bleffeth God: 29 Laban entertaineth him. 34 The fervant heweth his meffage: 50 Laban and Bethuel approve it. 58 Rebekah confenteth to go: 62 Ifaac meeteth her.

ND Abraham was old and + well ftricken in age: and the LORD had bleffed Abraham in all things.

2 And Abraham faid unto his eldest servant of Chap. 47. his house, that ruled over all that he had, a Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

3 And I will make thee fwear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites amongft whom I dwell:

4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my fon Ifaac.

5 And the fervant faid unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: muft I needs bring thy fon again unto the land from whence thou cameft?

6 And Abraham faid unto him, Beware thou, that thou bring not my fon thither again.

7¶ The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and Chap. 12. that fware unto me, faying, Unto thy feed will 7. & 13. I give this land; he thall fend his angel before 15. & 15 thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my fon 18. & 26.4 from thence.

14 And let it come to pass, that the damfel to whom I fhall fay, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and the thall fay, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink alfo: let the fame be the that thou hast appointed for thy fervant Ifaac; and thereby fhall I know that thou haft thewed kindness unto my master.

15¶ And it came to pafs before he had done fpeaking, that behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel fon of Milcah, the wife of Nahor Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16 And the damfel was + very fair to look † Heb. upon, a virgin, neither had any man known good of her and the went down to the well, and filled countenance, her pitcher, and came up.

17 And the fervant ran to meet her, and faid, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18 And the faid, Drink, my lord. And the hafted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19 And when the had done giving him drink, fhe faid, I will draw water for thy camels alfo, until they have done drinking.

zo And the hafted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

21 And the man, wondering at her, held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey profperous, or not.

22 And it came to pass as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ear-ring, | Or, jewel of half a thekel weight, and two bracelets for for the foreher hands, of ten hekels weight of gold;

23 And faid, Whofe daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's houfe for us to lodge in?

24 And the faid unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the fon of Milcah, which the bare unto Nahor.

25 She faid moreover unto him, We have both ftraw and provender enough, and room to lodge in, 26 And
