17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, "what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

He foretelleth them of false teachers, shewing the impiety and punishment both of them and their followers, 1: 7 from which the godly shall be delivered, as Lot was out of Sodom: 10 and more fully describeth the manners of those profane and blasphe. mous seducers, whereby they may be the better known, and avoided.

BUT there were false prophets also among the people, even as bthere shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord dthat bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

CHAPTER III. He assureth them of the certainty of Christ's coning to judgment, against those scorners who dispute against it. 1:8 warning the godly, for the long patience of God, to hasten their repentance, 10 He describeth also the manner how the world shall be destroyed 11 exhorting them, from the expec tation thereof, to all holiness of life: 15 and again, to think the patience of God to tend to their salvation, as Paul wrote to them in his epistles

manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
