court, and wast placed by Pilate side by side with a thief, a rebel, and a murderer. Give me strength that I may never be angered by persecutions, that I may possess my soul in patience, that I may count all unpleasing things gain, as tending to the greater glory of Thy holy Name.

Pray for parents, friends and benefactors.

O Saviour of the world, &c.

Oblation III.

ETERNAL Father, I offer to Thee the merits

of the most precious Blood of Jesus, Thy beloved Son, and my Divine Redeemer, with His sufferings under the hands of the Roman Governor, and the malicious triumph in gazing on His grief, of that miserable King who long before had "sought the Young Child and His mother" to kill them, for all saints, that they may be sanctified through His sufferings, for all sinners that even at the last hour, and when hope seems gone, if any stretch out their hands and lift up their hearts to Thee, they may be saved through His atonement. And having desired to present to Thee, O my God, this sacrifice, on account of the Church and of my native country, I turn to my own house, my relatives, and all to whom I am bound by piety, or love, or obligation, and beseech that its abundance

may meet the wants of everyone of these—pleading for them before Thee; (especially

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.

Prayer from Holy Scripture. 1 Kings viii.

WHAT Prayer and supplication soever shall be

made by any man, which shall know the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands towards this house; then hear Thou their prayer and their supplication.

Fourth Station.

Jesus scourged in the Judgment Hall.

JESUS, innocent victim, I adore Thee, bound to the pillar where Thou sufferedst cruel scourgings, offering to Thy Heavenly Father Thy blood so wickedly spilled. My soul is moved by Thy sufferings, O my Lord, for were they not endured for me? I hear, as it were, Thy voice saying to me, "My son, I have suffered these scourgings to expiate thy impurities and unregulated love of the flesh." Ah! Lord, I remember my faults, and I beseech Thee, by thy sorrows to sanctify my body and my soul; to wash them in Thy Precious Blood, and suffer not that they be ever more soiled by sin; cure my wounds by Thine. As Thou consentedst to be stripped of Thy garments, and so bound

to the pillar, unclothe me of the old man, and clothe me afresh in the new man, created after Thy likeness in holiness and righteousness.

Pray for the conversion of sinners.

Oblation IV.

ETERNAL Father, I offer to Thee the merits

of the most precious Blood of Jesus Thy dear Son, and my Divine Redeemer (with His patient suffering of the ignominy which here I contemplate,) for the enlightening of infidels, the extirpation of all heresies, and the conversion of sinners; that our Lord God would be pleased to deliver them from their blindness and their darkness, and the curse. under which they lie ;-(beseeching Him humbly and especially for

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.

Prayer from Holy Scripture. Jer. xvi. 19; Isa. lvi. 5, 8.

LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto Thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity and things wherein there is no profit; Then, O Lord, when the son of the stranger shall join himself unto our God, to serve Him, and to

love the name of the Lord, and to be His servants; even them bring Thou unto Thy holy mountain, and make them joyful in Thy house of prayer; let their burnt offerings and their sacrifices be accepted on Thine altar, for Thy House is called a House of prayer for all people.

Fifth Station.

Jesus ascending Mount Calvary.

JESUS-King of Kings—who, after having been

crowned with thorns, and loaded with torments and reproaches, didst at length take up Thy cross, the instrument of thy execution, to bear it to Calvary:-I adore Thee, I worship Thee, in this scene of Thy Passion; I throw myself weeping on Thy footsteps. Give me grace to take up with joy every cross which Thou mayest see fit to send me; and as Thou hast invited me to follow Thee, and commanded me to renounce myself and bear the cross, give me strength to imitate the holy women who accompanied Thy painful journey, lamenting for themselves and for their children, with cries and tears. Oh, that my tears could overflow the multitude of my crimes, which have been the cause of Thy cruel pains.

Pray for the perseverance of the faithful.
Our Father.

O Saviour of the world.

Oblation V.

ETERNAL Father, I offer to Thee the merits of

the most precious blood of Jesus, Thy beloved
Son, together with this commemoration of His
painful ascent of Calvary, for all who esteem this
great treasure of His sacred blood and expiatory
sufferings; for those who are united with me in
adoring and honouring them; and for all Thy chosen
people in every land; that having received the remis-
sion of sins by Baptism, and being bound to Thee by
many hallowed Sacraments, they may accomplish
in purity and perfectness the course marked out for
them in this world by Thy designs, and inherit the
reward of faithful servants in the world to come.
Glory be, &c.

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.

Prayer from Holy Scripture. Deut. xxxiii; Isa. xxxi

MAY the Eternal God be their refuge, and

underneath them be the everlasting arms;
may He thrust out the enemy from before them,
and as their days so may their strength be.

May the beloved of the Lord dwell in safety,
may the Lord cover them all the day long; until
their eyes shall see the King in His beauty, and
behold the land that is very far off. Happy art
thou, O Israel; who is like unto thee, O people
saved by the Lord!
