dost put away the sins of those who truly repent : open, O Lord, I beseech Thee, the eyes of Thy mercy upon me, Thine unworthy servant, who come to Thee, in grief and heaviness, to implore pardon for mine iniquities and sins.

O crucified Saviour, how often, wretched sinner that I am, have I sinned against Thee, who hast done and suffered so much for me, and now offerest Thyself to me to cleanse me from my past sin, and strengthen me against temptation.

But I desire, Ō gracious Lord, from this moment, to renounce everything that may displease Thee, and resolve, through the grace of Thy holy Sacrament, to resist all temptations, and to become wholly Thine; for in my own strength I can do nothing but on Thee I depend entirely, O my Saviour and best Friend.

For Thy Name's sake, O Lord, for Thy love's sake, for Thy promise' sake, teach me whatever Thou wouldst have me do, and then help me to do it.

Teach me, first, what to resolve upon, and then enable me to perform my resolutions, that I may walk with Thee in the ways of holiness here, and rest with Thee in happiness hereafter. Amen.

O Holy Spirit, make my spirit holy, I beseech Thee, as Thou art holy.

Sanctify me, O Thou Sanctifier of the heart and reins, that I may be prepared to receive Him holily,

who is the Holy of Holies, to Thy glory; to whom, with the Father and the Son, be all glory, world without end. Amen.

Psalm xvi.

2. For Weekly Communicants.

1. Act of Faith.

"Verily thou art a God that hidest Thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.' (Isa. xlv. 15.)

I

"The bread which I will give is My Flesh." (S. John vi. 51.)

FIRMLY believe, my Lord, that Thou art true God, and true Man, and that Thou hast with the Father and the Holy Spirit one Majesty, Power, and Divinity. I believe that Thou art truly and really present in this Sacrament, since Thou, who art Truth itself, hast said, "This is My Body." I believe: O Lord, increase my faith. O inconceivable happiness! I am about to receive into my soul my Saviour and my God, who was made Man, who vouchsafed to be born in a manger, to lead a life of poverty and pain, and at last to die on the Cross for my salvation; who gloriously rose again, and ascended into heaven, from whence He will come again to judge the quick and dead. I am about to receive that adorable Body, by whose touch so many sick have been cured, and that pre

cious Blood shed for me, the source of all graces and virtues; in short, I am about to receive my Lord and my God; I believe it more certainly than if I saw it with my eyes, because they could deceive me, but Thy Word, O my God, is infallible. I rejoice that this is a mystery inaccessible to my senses, incomprehensible to my reason, that I may honour Thy majesty the more by the submission of my understanding to Thy Word, bringing all under the obedience of faith. Amen.

2. Act of Hope.

HOU comest to me, O Divine Saviour of souls; what may I not hope for from Thee, who givest Thyself wholly to me? I come before Thee, O my God, with full confidence in Thy power and goodness. Thou knowest all my wants, and not only canst, but art also willing to relieve them. Thou invitest me to come to Thee, and dost graciously promise to help me, saying, "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you." Behold, O Lord, here I am, I present myself before Thee with all my weaknesses, my blindness, and my miseries, and I confidently hope that Thou wilt enlighten me, comfort me, and strengthen me in all trials and temptations, and change me wholly, for Thou art the God of my heart, and I put my whole trust in Thee. Amen.

3. Act of Desire.

S it possible, O my God, that Thou comest unto me, and with an infinite desire of uniting me to Thyself? O come, best beloved of my heart; come, Lamb of God, adorable Flesh, precious Blood of my Saviour; come, and be the nourishment of my soul. When shall I see Thee, O God of my heart, my joy, my delight, my love, my Lord, my all! My soul is athirst for Thee, the living fountain of life; it desires to drink of Thy fulness as out of a river. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

4. Act of Humility.

HO am I, O God of glory, that Thou shouldst deign to cast Thine eyes on me? Whence is this to me, that the Lord my God should come unto me-to me a sinner? O King of heaven, I am unworthy to eat the bread of angels, to feed on Thy flesh. I humble myself before Thee, and I desire to abase myself in the dust before Thy Majesty. I acknowledge Thy goodness, and my sin, Thy mercy, and my impenitence, Thy greatness, and my weakness, Thy surpassing perfection, and my miserable shortcoming. Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldest come under my roof; but speak the word only, and I shall be healed. Amen.

5. Act of Contrition.

LORD, I detest, with all my heart, the sins by which I have offended Thy Divine Majesty.

I desire to lay them all at Thy feet, that they may be blotted out in Thy Blood. Hear me, O Lord, by that infinite love by which Thou hast shed Thy Blood for me. Lord, for Thy tender mercies' sake, lay not my sins to my charge, but forgive that which is past, and give me grace to amend my life, to decline from sin and incline to virtue, that I may walk with a perfect heart before Thee, now and evermore. Amen.

6. Act of Fear.

"The earth shook, and the Heavens dropped at the Presence of God, Who is the God of Israel."-Ps. lxviii. 8.

"It is good for me to hold me fast by God, to put my trust in the Lord God."-Ps. lxxiii. 27.

SOVEREIGN Lord of heaven and earth, shall Thy exalted Majesty discourage and confound Thy unworthy creature? Shall I flee from the face of Him at whose Presence the pillars of Heaven tremble, and before whom the angelic choirs are not spotless. No, Almighty Goodness! Thou hast created my soul for Thyself, and it can never be satisfied without Thee; and though I tremble at the sight of my unworthiness, yet the remembrance of Thy Infinite Goodness fills my soul with consolation and hope. I will then unite myself to Thee, who art my Lord and my God, the Friend and Saviour of my soul. Oh! send forth Thy Spirit; prepare Thyself the heart Thou hast chosen for Thy tabernacle, and for the re
