By Thy holy Bonds, with which Thou wert bound and led as a Prisoner;

By Thy being taken, bound, and brought before the tribunals of Annas and Caiaphas;

By Thy blows, spittings, scorns, buffets, and other opprobrious usage Thou didst patiently endure all that night;

By the binding and blindfolding of Thy holy
Eyes, the shame and reproach Thou didst
then suffer;

By Thy being presented to the Pagan Judge
Pontius Pilate, as a notorious criminal, and
the accusations the Jews made against
Thee;

For all the shame, labours, upbraidings, and
reproofs which Thou didst suffer in going
from one judge to another;

For Thy great Patience and silence;

For Thy being sent to King Herod, and by the scorn and derision wherewith he and his guards treated Thee;

For that most cruel and shameful Scourging, which Thou didst endure;

By Thine innumerable Wounds, and the plenteous shedding of Thy Blood;

For the barbarous clamours of the people, to have the murderer Barabbas released, and Thee, Innocent Jesus, put to death;

Have mercy upon us.

ing Thy own heavy Cross on Thy sacred Shoulders;

For the plucking off Thy clothes to Thy greater shame;

By Thy cruel Racking and most painful stretching of Thy whole Body upon the Cross, and the nailing of Thy Hands and Feet to it, and the precious Blood flowing out of them; purge and enlighten us, and reconcile us to God the Father;

By the lifting up of Thy most holy Body on the Cross, and the sore bruising thereof, giving incredible pain to every part;

For the heaviness of Thy Heart and all the powers of Thy Soul;

For the opprobrious and scornful words which, hanging on the Cross, Thou heardest spoken unto Thee;

By Thy great Love in hanging on the Cross three hours alive;

By the great Compassion Thou hadst for thy sorrowful Mother, and beloved Disciple, standing at the foot of the Cross;

By Thy exceeding Charity in praying for Thy persecutors and murderers, and promising Paradise to the penitent thief;

By the seven last words Thou didst utter on the Cross, whilst Thou wert suspended thereon for the space of three hours;

Have mercy upon us.
