A1

LMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men ; I acknowledge and bewail my manifold sins and wickedness, which I, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word, and deed, against Thy Divine Majesty (especially . . .) provoking most justly Thy wrath and indignation against me. I do earnestly repent, and am heartily sorry for these my misdoings; the remembrance of them. is grievous unto me; the burden of them is

intolerable. Have mercy upon me, have mercy upon me, most merciful Father; for Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake forgive me all that is past; and grant that I may ever hereafter serve and please Thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of Thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God! I firmly resolve, here in Thy presence, and before the whole company of heaven, to live henceforth more exactly in conformity to Thy will, and to the rule of Thy commandments. I resolve to keep a more strict watch over myself; to correct my evil habits; to attend more diligently to my duties; to avoid more carefully all sin, and whatever may lead to it. But without Thy help I can do nothing. Do Thou therefore make me to will that which is good, and give me also the power to perform it. Grant that I may live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this world, and praise Thee for ever with Thy saints, in the world to come. Despise not, O Lord, my petitions, for Thine infinite mercies' sake, but accept this my evening sacrifice, and let it ascend before Thee as the incense.

O

LORD God, grant us an increase of faith, hope, and charity. Root out from among us all sin and vice, all dissensions and falsehood. Reprove

the wandering, correct the unbelieving; shew to all in schism the light of Thy grace, and restore them to the unity of Thy Church, Preserve the Bishops and pastors of Thy Church. Give to all sinners true repentance. Preserve the just in righteousness; confirm the religious. Have mercy upon all. Give food to those who labour. Comfort the sorrowful. Supply the wants of the needy. Heal the sick, support the dying. Forgive all who have sinned against or with me, or whom I have led into sin. Repay a hundred fold with good all whom I have injured and offended. Direct in the way of life all my relations and friends; all who pray for me, all who have commended themselves to my prayers, all who think kindly of me. Hear them, O Lord, when they cry to Thee in any manner of tribulation. May we all be filled with the plenteousness of Thy blessing. Have mercy on all who sleep in Jesus. Give eternal rest to them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them.

ETERNAL Father, by the life and death of
Thy beloved Son, grant that I may persevere

unto the end, and die in Thy grace.

O good Jesu by the love of the Eternal Father, and by the last words with which Thou didst commend Thy Spirit into His hands, receive my soul at my last hour.

O Holy Spirit, have mercy on me, and by Thy

holy inspirations strengthen me always, but espe⇒ cially at the hour of my death.

O most holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on me now and at the hour of my death. :

Our Father, &c, Hail Mary, &c. I believe, &c.

MAY the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with me now and evermore. Amen.

On composing oneself to sleep.

INTO Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit;

for Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. I will lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is Thou Lord only that makest me dwell in safety.

IN

II.

N the Name of the + Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen,

BLESSED be the holy and undivided Trinity

now and ever.

Amen.

Our Father, &c. Hail Mary, &c.

. I believe, &c.

MY Lord Jesus Christ, judge of the living and he dead, before whom I must appear one day to give an account of my life; enlighten me, I beseech Thee, and give me a humble and contrite heart, that I may see wherein I have offended Thee, and judging myself here, I may not be judged of Thee in severity hereafter.

•Here examine what sins have been committed, and what duties have been omitted during the past day.

O HOLY and Just God, I detest my sins, and all that I have committed against Thy Divine Majesty, I grieve that I have offended Thee. I desire to love and serve Thee faithfully, and by the help of Thy grace, never to offend Thee more. Be merciful to me a sinner, wash me in the precious blood of Christ, and cleanse me from all my sins.

I firmly believe all the sacred truth which the Catholic Church believes and teaches. And by the assistance of Thy grace, I am resolved to live and to die in the communion of this Thy Church.

I firmly believe that remission of sins and life everlasting are through Jesus Christ, my only Redeemer, and that through Him alone, have we access to the Father.

I desire to love Thee, O my God, with all my heart, and to love my neighbour as myself.

I renounce the devil and all his works, the world and all its pomps, the flesh and all its lusts.
