9. Litany of the Blessed Sacrament.

(For Maunday Thursday and any Thursday, or before or after recep tion of the Blessed Sacrament.)

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

God the Father, Creator of the World;
God the Son, Redeemer of Mankind;
God the Holy Ghost, Perfecter of the Elect;
Holy Trinity, Three Persons but One God;
Jesus, God and Man, in Two Natures, but One
Person;

Jesus, Who of Thy infinite love didst under-
take the work of our redemption, and taking
flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, wast made for our sake in the like-
ness of man ;

Jesus, Who for our sakes vouchsafest to be present on our altar;

Jesus, the Physician of Souls, Who camest down from heaven to heal us, and Who givest us Thy Body and Blood to be our medicine;

Jesus, the Bread of Life, of which whosoever eateth shall live for ever;

Jesus, the Heavenly Manna, which nourisheth

the elect in the wilderness of this world;

Have mercy upon us.

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, Who layedst down
Thy life for Thy sheep;

Jesus, the Priest and the Sacrifice;

Jesus, Who by this blessed fruit of the Tree
of Life, restorest us again to immortality;
Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life;
Jesus, the Nourishment and Refreshment of
holy souls;

Thou who art over all, God blessed for ever;
By that love wherewith Thou didst desire to
eat the passover with Thy disciples before
Thy passion;

By Thy unspeakable mercy in receiving pub-
licans and sinners, and eating with them;
By Thy precious Body broken, and Thy pre-
cious Blood shed, for sinners;

Through the love whereby Thou art still pre-
sent with us in a new and wonderful man-
ner, in a new and Divine Sacrament;
O Jesu, Who exhortest us to feed on Thee,
saying, "My Flesh is meat indeed, and My
Blood is drink indeed," grant that we may
be worthy to partake of that heavenly
Food;

O Jesu, Who when Thou wert about to insti-
tute this Sacrament didst first wash the feet
of Thy disciples, grant that we, being clean-
sed from all our sins, may not fail to obtain
all Thine inestimable benefits;

Hear us, O good Lord,

Have mercy upon us,

O Jesu, Whom Zaccheus did joyfully entertain in his house, do Thou condescend to dwell in us, to be our life and our joy;

Hear us, O good Lord.

From all making light of this Divine Sacrament,

From the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,

From every occasion of sin,

From every evil thought,

From all error, irreverence, and blindness of heart,

That Thou wouldest give us a true hunger and thirst after righteousness;

That Thou wouldest raise our minds more and more to heavenly desires;

That Thou wouldest evermore cherish in our hearts reverence and true devotion;

That Thou wouldest increase our faith, and enlarge our charity;

That Thou wouldest give us grace to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto Thee;

That in the hour of death Thou wouldst strengthen and defend us with this immortal Food;

We beseech Thee to hear us for all those who have despised or neglected Thee in these Divine mysteries, that Thou wouldst give

We beseech Thee to hear us, good Lord. Good Lord, deliver us.

them grace to know, to adore, and to love Thee; For all who by any unbelief, irreverence, or profaneness towards this Divine Sacrament have provoked Thee to anger, that Thou wouldest pardon them, and turn their hearts;

For all who having received Thee and tasted how gracious Thou art, have fallen again into deadly sin, that Thou wouldest vouchsafe to them true contrition and renewed life;

That notwithstanding all the provocation wherewith Thou hast been grieved, Thou wouldest not leave us, nor withdraw the fulness of Thy grace in which Thou hast promised to be present with us even unto the end of the world;

We beseech Thee to hear us, good Lord.

V. By all Thy labours and watchings; by Thy miracles of mercy,

R. Have mercy upon us, good Lord.

V. By Thy Cross and Passion; by Thy sacred wounds, and by Thy prevailing intercession, R. Have mercy upon us, good Lord.

V. Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,

R. Have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father, &c.

Let us pray.

GOD, Who in this wonderful Sacrament hast

left us a perpetual memorial of Thy Passion; Grant us, we beseech Thee, so to reverence the sacred mysteries of Thy Body and Blood, that we may always feel in our souls the fruit of Thy redemption, Who livest and reignest for ever. Amen.
