passed by in her former exhortations, she then called to her, and said, "He, do you love me? be a good boy, and if a good boy, try to be a clergyman, and live to the glory of God, that is all that is of consequence;" she desired the baby to be lifted up to her, and said, "do you love me? I love you, smiling and still looking at her, she added, you are a tender and affectionate child." Throughout the whole of this solemn, and truly heart-rending scene, while every one was affected to tears, and incapable of uttering a word, she alone remained calm, and betrayed no struggle of feeling. A holy serenity and

expression of happiness sat on her counte

nance.

We saw our beloved child was gradually sinking, though no particular change had taken place during the last two hours. We were all watching around her bed, waiting the solemn change. Would my young readers, to whose spiritual benefit, I trust this memorial of God's dealings with our beloved child may be blessed, I ask, would my young readers wish me to draw a veil over the last conflict, and shrink from remaining in the chamber

of death? I would say to such, be not afraid,

"There is nothing terrible in death,

To those who go to heaven;"

No, my young friends, you may linger on the sacred spot and behold our once timid trembling child, walking through the valley of death without a fear, stay and witness the power of Divine grace to disarm the last enemy of its sting. It is true the scene was solemn; an immortal and redeemed spirit was about to pass from time into eternity, waiting the glad summons to quit the body, and to be present

with the Lord. It was solemn, because God was there! It was solemn, because Jesus the Son of God was there!-It was solemn, because angels were there as ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to this dying heir of salvation. But still there was nothing terrible, nothing dreadful.

Our dear child was cheerful while lying in the arms of death, and as she herself said "very happy," and had "no fear." O! let us for a few moments contemplate the circumstances that attended her death, and

contrast them with the agonizing death of our beloved Saviour.

Behold our dying child, surrounded by: all her dearest relatives, every painful feeling relieved that it was in the power of human aid to alleviate, resting on a soft and easy bed, the hand of tender sympathy wiping away the cold dew of death, and then view the Son of God treading the dark Valley, see the sword of God's vengeance unsheathed against the man that was His: fellow; Behold Jesus in Gethsemane, agonizing under the wrath of God, a. bloody sweat bedewing his body; look at
