XXXIII. 1 The Majefty of GOD. 6 The Bleffings of the twelve Tribes. 26 The Excellency of Ifrael.. Ver. 1 A ND this is the Blefling wherewith Mofes the Man of GOD bleffed the Children of Ifrael before his Death. 2 "And he faid, The LORD came from SINAI, and rofe up from Seir unto them; he SHINED forth from Mount Paran, and he came with Ten thousands of Saints: from his Right Hand went a FIERY LAW for them. 3 Yea, he loved the People; all his Saints are in thy Hand and they fat down at thy Feet; every one fhall receive of thy Words. 4 Mofes commanded us a Law even the Inheritance of the Congregation of Ja cob. 5 And he was King in Jefhurun, when the Heads of the People, and the Tribes of Ifrael were gathered together. 6 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his Men be few. are EVERLASTING. Pfal. 1. 1 The MIGHTY GOD, even the Earth from the rifing of the Sun, the LORD hath spoken, and called unto the going down thereof. 2 Out of ZION the PERFECTION of BEAUTY, GOD hath SHINED. 3 Our God fhall come, and fhall not keep Silence: a FIRE fhall DEVOUR before him, and it shall be very TEMPESTUOus round about him. 4 Hefhall call to the Heavens from Above, and to the Earth, that he may JUDGE his People. 5. Gather my SAINTS together unto me: thofe that have made a Covenant with me by Sacrifice. 6 And the HEAVENS fhall DECLARE his RIGHTEOUSNESS; for GOD is JUDGE thy 26 There is none like unto the GoD of Jefhurun, who rideth upon the Heaven in thy Help, and in his Excellency on the Sky. 27 The ETERNAL GOD IS HIMSELF. O thy REFUGE, and underneath are the everlasting Arms: and he fhall thrust out the Enemy from before thee, and fhall fay, Destroy them. 28 Ifrael then fhall dwell in Safety alone: the Fountain of Jacob fhall be upon a Land of Corn and Wine, alfo his Heavens fhall drop down Dew. 29 Happy art thou, O If rael who is like unto thee, O People faved by the LORD, the Shield of thy Help, and who is the Sword of thy Excellency and thine Enemies fhall be found Liars unto thee, and thou fhalt tread upon their high Places. Pal lxviii. 4 SING unto GOD, SING PRAISES to his Name: EXTOL him that rideth upon the Heavens by his Name JAH, and REJOYCE before him. S A FATHER of the Fatherless, and a JUDGE of the Widows, is GOD in his HOLY HABITATION. 17 The CHARIOTS of GOD are TWENTY THOUSAND, even THOUSANDS oF ANGELS: the LORD is among them as in SINAI, in the HOLY PLACE. 18 Thou haft ASCENDED on HIGH, thou hast LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE: thou haft received GIFTS for MEN; yea, for the REBELLIOUS also, that the LORD GOD might DWELL among them. 19 BLESSED be the LORD, who daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the GOD of OUR SALVATION. 20 He that is OUR GOD, is the GOD of SALVATION; and unto God the LORD belong the ISSUES FROM DEATH. 32 SING unto God, ye KINGDOMS of the Earth: O SING PRAISES unto the LORD. 33 To him that RIDETH upon the HEAVEN OF HEAVENS, which were of Old; lo, he doth send out his Voice, and that a MIGHLY VOICE. 34 ASCRIBE ye STRENGTH unto GOD: his EXCELLENCY is over ISRAEL, and his STRENGTH is in the CLOUDS. Dan, vii. 9 I beheld, till the THRONES were caft down, and the ANCIENT of DAYS did fit, whofe Garment was white as Snow, and the Hair of his Head like the pure Wool: his THRONE was like the FIERY FLAME, and his Wheels as burning Fire. IO A FIERY STREAM iffued, and came forth from before him: THOU SAND THOUSANDS MINISTRED unto him, and Ten thoufand times Ten thoufand ftood before him: the JUDGMENT was SET, and the Books were OPENED. CHAP. XXXIV. 1 Mofes from Mount Nebo vieweth the Land 5 He dieth there 6 His Burial: 7 His Age: 8 Thirty Days Mourning for him: 9 Joshua fucceedeth him: Praife of Mofes. 10 The ND Mofes went up from the Plains of Moab, Ver. unto the Mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pif gah, that is over against Jericho and the LORD fhewed him all the Land. 4 And the LORD faid unto him, I fware unto Abraham, unto Ifaac, This is the Land which and unto Jacob, faying, will give it unto thy Seed: I have caufed thee to fee it with thine Eyes, but thou fhalt not go over thither. 5 So Mofes the Servant of the LORD died there in the Land of Moab, according to the Word of the LORD. 6 And he buried him in • Jude 9 Michael the Archange a Valley in the Land of Mo- when contending with the Devil, he ab, over against Beth-peor: difputed about the Body of Mofes. but no Man knoweth of his Sepulchre unto this Day. 7 And Mofes was an hundred and twenty Years old when he died his Eye was not dim, nor his natural Force abated. 8 And the Children of Ifrael wept for Mofes in the Plains of Moab thirty Days: fo the Days of weeping, and mourning for Mofes were ended. 9 And Jofhua the Son of Nun was full of the Spirit of Wisdom; for Mofes had laid his Hands upon him and the Children of Ifrael hearkned unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Mofes. 10 And there arofe not a Prophet fince in Ifrael like unto Mofes, whom the LORD knew Face to Face: 11 In all the Signs and the Wonders which the LORD fent him to do in the Land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, and to all his Servants, and to all his Land. 12 And in all that mighty Hand, and in all the great TerFor which Mofes fhewed in the Sight of all Ifrael. The End of the Books of MOSES, tttttttt tttttttt IN N this Book is contained a REPETITION of the Law that was delivered to Moses upon Mount SINAI, who with great ELOQUENCE reprefents the many BLESSINGS and Felicities that the Hebrews fhould enjoy while they continued in their OBEDIENCE; and the TERRIBLE VENGEANCE that should come upon the whole NATION upon their TRANSGRESSIONS and DISOBEDIENCE. It ought to be confidered, that thefe PROMISES and THREATNINGS were not RECORDED for the Instruction of the Ifraelites only, but for THOSE alfo to whom the last DISPENSATION that God has given to Mankind is RE VEALED. ROM. XV. Ver. 4 FOR whatfoever Things were WRITTEN aforethrough PATIENCE and COMFORT of the Scriptures might have HOPE. As our SAVIOUR came not to deftroy, but to fulfil the Law; and as his PRECEPTS Contain the Perfection of it: So the REWARDS promifed, and the THREATNINGS denounced in the Gofpel, far exceed thofe of the Law. Most of the Promifes delivered by Mofes, were the Affurances of a TEMPORAL FELICITY to be enjoyed in the Land of Canaan. The PROMISES made to thofe that BELIEVE and OBEY the GOSPEL are of a much SUBLIMER Nature, not con1 fined to a fhort and very uncertain Life, but extending to that which is UNALTERABLE and ETERNAL; where is prepared for thofe that LOVE and SERVE the ALMIGHTY, fuch REWARDS which EYE hath not SEEN, nor EAR HEARD, nor hath it ENTRED into the HEART of Man to CONCEIVE. The THREATNINGS alfo of the GOSPEL, fo far exceed thofe of the Law, as the Vengeance denounced by the one is TEMPORAL, and that by the other ETERNAL; MOSES to enforce his PERS WASIONS, reminds the Ifraelites of the TREMENDOUS Appearance of the DIVINE MAJESTY upon Mount Sinai, from whence the Law was given; which by the Apostle to the Hebrews is most elegantly expreffed in the following Words: HEB HE B. XII. Ver. 18 the be touched, and that BURNED with FIRE, nor unto BLACKNESS, and DARKNESS, and TEMPEST. 19 And the Sound of a TRUMPET, and the VOICE of Words, which VOICE they that heard, intreated that the WORD fhould not be spoken to them any more : 20 (For they could not ENDURE that which was COMMANDED. And if fo much as a Beaft touch the Mountain, it fhall he stoned, or thruft through with a Dart, 21 And fo TERRIBLE was the SIGHT, that Mofes faid, I exceedingly FEAR and QUAKE.) 22 But ye are come unto Mount SION, and unto the CITY of the LIVING GOD, the HEAVENLY JERUSALEM, and to an innumerable Company of ANGELS, 23 To the General Affembly and CHURCH of the FIRSTBORN, which are written in HEAVEN, and to GOD the JUDGE of all, and to the SPIRITS of JUST Men made PER FECT. 24 And to JESUS the MEDIATOR of the NEW COVE NANT, and to the BLOOD of Sprinkling, that speaketh BETTER THINGS than that of Abel. From which Reprefentation the Apostle draws the following Conclufion: 25 See that ye REFUSE not him that SPEAKETH: for if they ESCAPED not who REFUSED him that SPAKE on EARTH, much more fhall not we ESCAPE if we TURN away from HIM that SPEAKETH from HEAVEN. 26 Whofe VOICE then SHOOK the EARTH: but now he hath promifed, faying, Yet once more I SHAKE not the EARTH only, but alfo HEAVEN. 27 And this Word, Yet once more fignifieth the REMOVING of thofe Things that are SHAKEN, as of Things that are MADE, that thofe Things which cannot be SHAKEN, may REMAIN. 28 Wherefore we RECEIVING a KINGDOM which cannot be MOVED, let us have Grace, whereby we may SERVE GOD ACCEPTABLY, with REVERENCE and GODLY FEAR. 29 For our GoD is a CONSUMING FIRE. |
