Where is it written? What is the subject of the discourse?

What is meant by "Christ's ascension ?"

A. His going up into Heaven.

Where was any thing written concerning Christ?

What was to happen with respect to the things which were written concerning him?

For what purpose did Christ open the understanding of his disciples?

What was Christ to suffer?

A. Death. What was to happen after his death?

What was to be preached in his name?

What is meant by remission of sins?"

A. Forgiveness of sins. Where were they to be preached?

Where were the apostles to begin preaching?

Why first at Jerusalem ? A. Because the terms of salvation were to be first offered to the Jews, and Jerusalem was their chief city where the temple stood.

Of what were the apostles witnesses?

What were these things? A. Christ's death and resurrection.

What do you mean by Christ's resurrection?

These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scripture. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day; And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. What was the cause of their joy?

A. That their Master was received into heaven. Where were they continually?

Christ beginneth his sermon upon the Mount declaring who are blessed.

Jesus seeing the multitudes, went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

A. That if the doctrine of his disciples become bad or corrupt, it will be good for nothing.

What does Christ call his disciples in the next place? Why does he call them so?

VER. 12-16. Christ calleth his disciples the salt of the earth, the light of the world, and by the similitudes of a city on an hill, and of a candle, he urgeth upon them the necessity of setting a good example.

Ye are the salt of the earth but if the salt have

lost his savour, wherewith

shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot
