"I OUR SAVIOUR'S FIRST DIS COURSE TO THE JEWS. John v. Of the Honour due to Christ. The Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things, that himself doeth. As the Father raised up the dead, and quickeneth What is meant by them; even so the Son "quickeneth them?" quickeneth whom he will. C A. Maketh them alive. What does the Son do in like manner? For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son, Does the Father judge that all men should honour any man? Unto whom has he committed all judgment? For what purpose? How are men to honour the Son? If any man does not honour the Son, what does he not do to the Father? Who sent the Son? Who is said to have everlasting life? Into what will such a person not come ? From what is he passed? What hour did our Saviour say was coming? Whose voice did he say that the dead should hear? Who are here meant by the dead? A. Those who were dead in trespasses and sins. What did he say should become of those that should hear? CHAPTER IV. What discourse is contained in the fourth chapter? Where is it written? What is the subject of it? What is a synagogue? 4. A Jewish place of worship. What is here meant by never hungering or thirsting? A. Shall never want the the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlast\ing life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. means necessary to his eternal happiness. What does Christ say that he is? How is Christ the bread of life? A. As bread nourishes the body, so the teaching of Christ shall nourish our souls with eternal life. What shall happen to him who comes to Christ? What shall happen to him who believes in Christ? Who are those that will come to Christ? Will Christ cast out any who come to him? Whence did Christ come down? Whose will did he come to do? What does he say is his Father's will? If Christ will not lose any thing that the Father has given him, what will he do to it? What will every one have who seeth the Son, and bebelieveth on him? What will Christ do to him at the last day? CHAPTER V. Where was the discourse in the 5th chapter spoken ? Where is it written? What is the subject of it? Who is the good Shepherd? What did Christ mean by "his sheep?" I will in no wise cast out For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me, And this is the Father's will, which hath sent me, That of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. A. The Gentiles. Who were the Gentiles? A. All nations who were not Jews. What does he say that he must do for them? And what would they hear? And what would they all both Jews and Gentiles be made? Why does the Father love Christ? Why does Christ lay down his life? Who does he say taketh his life from him? Of whose will then does he lay it down? What has he power to do? What other power has he? From whom did he receive this commandment? so know I the Father: I sheep. And other sheep I lay down my life for the have, which are not of this fold; them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. membrance of their coming out of Egypt, when the destroying Angel slew all the first born of the Egyptians, and passed over the houses of the Israelites which were marked with blood. If a corn of wheat does not fall into the ground, and die, what becomes of it? What is meant by "abideth alone?" A. "It will not increase." If it die, what will happen? What then must happen to a grain of wheat, that it may bring forth fruit? What will happen to him that loveth his life? What do you mean by "he that loveth his life shall lose it ??? A. He who loveth the things of this life more than heavenly things, shall lose eternal life. What will happen to him that hateth his life in this world? What his meant by "hating his life?" A. Choosing rather to lose it, than forsake his religion. If any man serve Christ, what must he do?.. What will happen to him if he follows Christ? What will the Father do to any man who serves Christ? die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it: and he that hateth his life in this world, shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be; if any man serve me, him will my Fa ther honour. |
