7 And he fet a carved IMAGE (the IDOL which he had made) in the House of GOD, of which God had faid to David, and to Solomon his Son, In this House, and in Jerufalem, which I have chofen before all the Tribes of Ifrael, will I put my Name for ever.

8 Neither will I any more remove the Foot of Ifrael from out of the Land which I have appointed for your Fathers; fo that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole Law, and the Statutes, and the Ordinances by the Hand of Mofes.

9 So Manaffeh made Judah and the Inhabitants of Jerufalem to ERR, and to do woRSE than the Heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed.

10 And the LORD fpake to Manaffeh, and to his People, by his Servants the Prophets, faying,

11 Because Manaffeh King of Judah hath done these Abominations, and hath done wickedly, above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah alfo to fin with his Idols:

12 Therefore thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, Behold, I am bringing fuch Evil upon Jerufalem and Judah, that whofoever heareth of it, both his Ears fhall tingle.

13 And I will ftretch over Jerufalem the Line of Samaria, and the Plummet of the Houfe of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerufalem as a Man wipeth a Dish, wiping it, and turning it upfide down.

14 And I will forfake the Remnant of mine Inheritance, and deliver them into the Hand of their Enemies, and they fhall become a Prey, and a Spoil to all their Enemies ;

15 Because they have done that which was evil in my fight, and have provoked me to Anger fince the Day their Fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this Day.

16 Moreover, Manaffeh shed innocent Blood very much, till he had filled Jerufalem from one End to another, befide his Sin wherewith he made Judah to fin, in doing that which was evil in the fight of the LORD,

2 CHRON. XXXIII.

11 Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the Captains of the Hoft of the King of Affyria, which took Manaffeh among the Thorns, and bound him with Fetters, and carried him unto Babylon.

12 And when he was in Affliction, he BESOUGHT the LORD his GOD, and HUMBLED himself greatly before the GOD of his Fathers.

13 And PRAYED unto him, and he was ENTREATED of him, and heard his Supplication, and brought him again to Jerufalem, into his Kingdom. Then Manafleh KNEW that the LORD he was GOD. 15 And he took away the ftrange Gods, and the IDOL out of the House of the LORD,

8 For my Thoughts are not your Thoughts, neither are your Ways my Ways, faith the LORD.

than the Earth, fo are my Ways than 9 For as the Heavens are higher your Ways, and my Thoughts than your Thoughts.

and all the Altars that he had built in the Mount of the House of the LORD, and in Jerufalem, and caft them out of the City.

16 And he repaired the Altar of the LORD, and facrificed thereon Peace-offerings, and Thank-offerings, and commanded Judah to ferve the LORD GOD of Ifrael.

17 Nevertheless, the People did facrifice ftill in the high Places, yet unto the LORD their GoD only.

18 Now the rest of the Acts of Manaffeh, and his Prayer unto his GOD, and the Words of the Seers that spake to him in the Name of the LORD GOD of Ifrael, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Ifrael.

19 His Prayer alfo, and how GOD was intreated of him, and all his Sin, before he was humbled; they are written among the Sayings of the Seers.

20 So Manaffeh flept with his Fathers, and they buried him in his own House: and Amon his Son reigned in his ftead.

21 Amon was two and twenty Years old when he began to reign, and reigned two Years in Jerufalem.

22 But he did that which was EVIL in the fight of the LORD, as did Manaffeh his Father: for Amon facrificed

unto all the CARVED IMAGES Which Manaffeh had made, and ferved them;

23 And HUMBLED not himself before the LORD, as Manaffeh his Father had humbled himself; but Amon trefpaffed more and more.

24 And his Servants confpired against him, and flew him in his own House.

25 But the People of the Land flew all them that had confpired against King Amon, and the People of the Land made JOSIAH his Son King in his stead.

CHA P. XXXIV.

Jofiah his good Reign: 3 He deftroyeth Idolatry: 8 He taketh Order for the Repair of the Temple. 14 Hilkiah baving found a Book of the Law, Jofiah fendeth to Huldah to enquire of the LORD. 23 Huldah prophefieth the DeftruEtion of Jerufalem, but refpite thereof in Jofiah's Time 29 Jofiah caufing it to be read in a folemn Assembly, reneweth the Covenant with GOD.

Ver. 1 JOSIAH

Years.

JOSIAH was eight Years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerufalem one and thirty

z And he did that which was right in the fight of the LORD, and walked in the Ways of DAVID his Father, and declined neither to the Right Hand nor to the Left.

: 3 For in the eighth Year of his Reign, while he was yet YOUNG, he began to SEEK after the GoD of David his Father and in the twelfth Year he began to purge Judah and Jerufalem from the high Places, and the Groves, and the carved Images, and the molten Images.

2 KINGS XXIII.

10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Children of Hinnom, that no Man might make his Son or his Daughter to pass through the Fire to Molech.

II And he took away the Horfes that the Kings of Judah had given to the SUN, at the Entring in of the Houfe of the LORD, by the Chamber of Nathan-Melech the Chamberlain which was in the Suburbs, and burnt the Chariots of the Sun with Fire.

12 And the Altars that were on the top of the upper Chamber

Chamber of Ahaz, which the Kings of Judah had made, and the Altars which Manafleh had made in the two Courts of the House of the LORD, did the King beat down, and brake them down from thence, and caft the Duft of them into the Brook Kidron.

13 And the high Places that were before Jerufalem, which were on the right hand of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon the King of Ifrael had builded for Afhtoreth the Abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemofh the Abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the Abomination of the Children of Ammon, did the King defile.

14 And he brake in pieces the Images, and cut own the Groves, and filled their Places with the Bones of Men.

15 Moreover, the Altar that was at Beth-el, and the high Place which Jeroboam, had made, both that Altar and the high Place he brake down, and burnt the high Place, and ftampt it small to Powder, and burnt the Grove.

2 CHRON. XXXIV.

1 Kings xiii. 1 And there came a MAN of GOD unto Beth-el.

2 And he cried against the Altar in the Word of the LORD, and faid, O Altar, Altar, thus faith the LORD, Behold, a Child fhall be born unto the House of David, Jofiah by Name, and upon thee fhall he offer the Priests of the high Places that burnt Incense upon thee, and Mens Bones shall be burnt upon thee.

4 " And they brake down the Altars of BAALIM in his Prefence; and the Images that were on high above them, he cut down, and the Groves, and the carved Images, and the molten Images he brake in pieces, and made Duft of them, and STROWED it upon the Graves of them that had facrificed unto them. 5 And he burnt the BONES of the PRIESTS upon their Altars, and cleanfed Judah and Jerufalem.

6 And fo did he in the Cities of Manaffeh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali.

7 And when he had broken down the Altars and the Groves, and had beaten the graven Images into Powder, and cut down all the Idols throughout all the Land of Ifrael, he returned to Jerufalem.

8 Now in the eighteenth +Year of his Reign, when he had purged the Land, and the

9 And when they came to Hilkiah the High Priest, they delivered the Money that was brought into the House of GOD, which the Levites had gathered, of all the REMNANT of Ifrael, and of all Judah, and Benjamin.

10 And they put it into the Hand of the Workmen, that had the Overfight of the House of the LORD, to repair and mend the House.

12 And the Men did the Work faithfully.

14 And Hilkiah the Priest found a Book of the LAW of the LORD given by MOSES.

15 And Hilkiah faid to Shaphan the Scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the Houfe of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the Book to Shaphan :

16 And Shaphan carried the Book to the King.

18 And Shaphan read it before the King.

19 And it came to pafs when the King had heard the WORDS of the LAW, that he rent his Cloaths.

20 And the King commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam, and Abdon, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, saying,

21 Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are LEFT in ISRAEL, and in Judah, concerning the WORDS of the Book that is found: for great is the WRATH of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our Fathers have not KEPT the Word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this Book.

22 And Hilkiah, and they that the King had appointed, went to HULDAH the PROPHETESS, and they fpake to her to that Effect.

23 And the answered them, Thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, Tell ye the Man that fent you to me,

24 Thus faith the LORD, Behold, I will bring Evil upon this Place, and upon the Inhabitants thereof, even all the CURSES that are written in the Book which they have read before the King of Judah :

25 Because they have FORSAKEN me, and have burned Incenfe unto other Gods, that they might provoke me to Anger with all the Works of their Hands; therefore my Wrath fhall be poured out upon this Place, and fhall not be quenched.
