"not,but for them that beleeve, 1 Cor.14 22. "Hence it is that God hath fet his Officers in the Church, 1 Cor. 12. 28. and for the "Church, Eph. 4. 12. Jus divinum Mi. nifterii, Part. 1. cap. 5. It may there fore be reafoned thus: If there be no preaching without being ordained, and in Office, then there is no provifion at all made by the Lord: (that is fuch, principally or fo much, for the converting Souls, and working Faith) as for Edification, and the building up of such as are converted. Now it is very hard to imagin that the converting of Souls, a principal end for which Chrift came in- Luke. 19. to the world, and suffered, fhould have 10. no provision made for it of primary and 11.13. principal intention, but only what is on the bye, and occafional.

As the Common Faith fo whatsoever means (though from Common Charity) tends to the working ofit, ought to be Contended for. This indeed is the most close and intimate efficacy whereby the curfed beam of original darkness, is

wrought out, and the eye of the foul opened upon the bleffed God to falvation: This is that great and Mafter-Grace, through which the Mysteries of Eterni ty fhine in upon the foul; the foul; without which, though they be preached to us, Cor. 4 yet it is a Gospel hid, and we perish notwithftanding Nay, Reason it felf Thef.3.2 is abfurd and unreasonable where men have not Faith; which vertue corrects and difpofeth Reason even in respect of its proper Object, as Reason doth our Senfes.

God cals his left at any Age, but

them it before old Age. The Soul is naturally fetled in a finful fecurity.

The beart of a Natural man is wholly unwilling to fubmit to the Word that would fever bim from his fins.

8 God the Father by a holy kind of violence, plucks His out of their corruptions, and draws them to beleeve in Chrift.

The Ninth and Tenth Books of the Application of Redemption by the Effectual Work of the Word, and fpirit of Chrift, for the bringing home of loft finners to God. Befides many other fesfönable, and Soul-fearching Truths, there is alfo largely fhewed. The heart must be humble and contrite before the Lord wil dwel in it. Stubborn, and bloody finners may be made broken-hearted.

There must be true fight of fin, before the heart can be broken for it. 4 Application of special fins by the Ministry, is a means to bring men to fight of, and forrow for them. Meditation of fin, a special means to break the heart.
