OR,

THE DUTY OF CHRISTIANS TO MAKE KNOWN THE
GOSPEL TO THE WORLD,

ASSERTED AND ENFORCED, IN A DISCOURSE ON MARK XVI. 15.

WITH AN

Appendix on Preaching, etc.

BY WILLIAM PECHEY, A.M.

"And let him that heareth say, Come."-REV. xxii. 17.

IT may be proper to apprise the reader that the substance of the following Discourse was addressed one Sunday morning, some little while ago, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of a missionary society. It was succeeded by another address, in an after part of the day, containing a brief summary review of the rise, history, and fortunes of the particular undertaking referred to. This announcement will sufficiently explain certain expressions and allusions which might otherwise be hardly intelligible, as well as account for the general scope and tenor of the Discourse itself. At the same time, the author has no wish to conceal the fact, which it would be impossible to deny, that one principal design of the publication is to call attention to the particular views advocated and dwelt on, more especially and at length, in the Appendix. If these opinions, so far as they are at all new or peculiar, should be thought to require anything

in the way of apology, the author has only to say that he has long held them to be not only just and scriptural, but of great practical moment. With this thorough and growing conviction of their truth and importance, he ventures to bespeak for them at least a patient and candid consideration.

Apart, however, from what may be looked upon as novel, and, therefore, debateable, it may be permitted, perhaps, to entertain the humble hope that some few things will be found in the following pages, which, though wanting in all claims to originality of any kind, whether as to thought or expression, will nevertheless tend, with God's good will and blessing, to help forward, in some small measure, the best and noblest cause of any upon earth.

LANGHAM,

April 15th, 1847.
