CHAP. I.

Promises of Temporal Blessings.

I. GENERAL PROMISES to the GOOD.

SAL. xvi. 6. The lines are fallen unto me in pleafant places; I have a goodly heritage.

Pf. lxxxiv. 11. The LORD GOD is a fun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Eccl. viii. 12. Surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him.

If. iii. 10. Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

Pf. lviii. 11. Verily there is a reward for the righteous.

Pf. v. 12. Thou, LORD, wilt bless the righte

Pf. iii. 8. Salvation belongeth unto the LORD, thy blessing is upon thy people.

Prov. x. 6. Blessings are upon the head of the just. Ver. 14. The defire of the righteous shall be granted. Ver. 28. The hope of the righteous shall be gladnefs.

Prov. xi. 18. To him that foweth righteousness shall be a fure reward. Ver. 19. Righteousness tendeth to life. Ver. 28. The righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Prov. iii. 32. His fecret is with the righteous. Prov. xii. 2. A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Prov. xiii. 9. The light of the righteous rejoiceth. Ver. 21. To the righteous good shall be repayed.

Pf. xxiii. 6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Rom. viii. 32. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him alfo freely give us all things ?

1 Cor. iii. 21, 22. All things are yours, whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come, all are yours.

1 Tim. iv. 8. Godliness is profitable unto all things; having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

II. PROMISES of TEMPORAL BLESSINGS in general. Pf. xxiii. 1. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. Ver. 5. Thou preparest a table before me

in the prefence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.

Pf. xxxiv. 9. There is no want to them that fear him. Ver. 10. They that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Mat. vi. 33. Seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Phil. iv. 19. My GOD shall fupply all your need, according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

1 Tim. vi. 6. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Ver. 17. Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

III. Particularly of FOOD and RAIMENT. Pf. xxxvii. 3. Trust in the LORD Of Food. and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Ps. cxi. 5. He hath given meat unto them that fear him; he will ever be mindful of his covenant. Pf. cxxxii. 15. I will abundantly bless her provifion, I will fatisfy her poor with bread.

Ps. cxlvii. 14. He filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

Prov. xiii. 25. The righteous eateth to the fatisfying of his foul.

Mat. vi. 26. Behold the fowls of the air, for they fow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them: Are ye not much better than they?

Joel ii. 26. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be fatisfied.

If. lxv. 13. Behold my fervants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold my fervants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty.

Mat. vi. 25. I say unto you, Take no Raiment. thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, body, what ye shall put on: is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment ? Ver. 30. Wherefore if GOD fo clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Ver. 31. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed? Ver. 32. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

IV. Promises of LONG LIFE and HEALTH.

Deut. v. 33. You shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your GOD hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Deut. v. 2. That thou mightest fear the LORD thy GOD, to keep all his statutes and commandments, which I command thee; thou, and thy fon, and thy fon's fon, all the days of thy life, and that thy days may be prolonged.

Job v. 26. Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in, in his feafon.

Ps. xxxiv. 12. What man is he that defireth life, and loveth many days, that he may fee good? Ver. 13. Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Ver. 14. Depart from evil and do good, feek peace and purfue it.

Pf. xci. 16. With long life will I fatisfy him, and shew him my falvation.

Prov. iii. 2. Length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Ver. 26. Length of days is in her [Wisdom's] right hand.

Prov. ix. 11. By me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Prov. x. 27. The fear of the LORD prolongeth days.

Pf. ciii. 3. Who forgiveth all thine iniHealth. quities, who healeth all thy diseases. Ver. 4. Who redeemeth thy life from deftruction. Ver. 5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things, so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles.

Prov. iii. 7. Be not wife in thine own eyes; fear the LORD, and depart from evil. Ver. 8. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Prov. iv. 22. They are life to them that find them, and health to all their flesh.

V. Promises of SAFETY under the Divine Protection.

Deut. xxxiii. 12. The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the LORD shall cover him all the day long.

Prov. xviii. 10. The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it, and is fafe.

Pfal. cxvi. 8. I have set the LORD always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved..

Pfal. cxii. 7. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

1 Pet. iii. 13. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

Job iv. 7. Remember, I pray thee, Who ever perished, being innocent ? Or where were the righteous cut off ?

Job xi. 18. Thou shalt be fecure, because there is hope.

Job v. 23. Thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

Hof. ii. 18. And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground;
