SECT. VI.

He is the most Strong, Almighty, and Omnipotent God: a Rock.

THE Lord appeared to Abraham, and said, &c. I am the Almighty God, &c.-Gen. xvii. 1. xxviii. 3. xxxv. 11.

And the Lord said, &c. Is any thing too hard for the Lord ?—Gen. xviii. 13, 14. Jer. xxxii. 27.

His hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob, &c. By the Almighty, &c.-Gen. xlix. 24, 25.

I will redeem you with a stretchedout arm.-Exod. vi. 6. Jer. xxx. 54.

The Lord is a man of war, &c. Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power, &c.-Exod. xv. 3. 6.

Jehovah, &c. is the God of gods, &c. the most strong, the greatest and the most powerful, &c.-Deut. x. 17.

He is the Rock, his work is per-* fect, &c. Jeshurun, &c. forsook God, &c. and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation, &c. Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, &c. SECT. VII.

He is Omniscient, Omnipresent, Immensė.

THOU, God, seest me for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?-Gen. xvi. 13.

God said, I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go; no, not by a mighty hand.-Exod. iii 19.

The Lord is a God of knowledge. by him actions are weighed.-1 Sam. ii. 3. Job xxi. 22. xxxvii. 16.

The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.-1 Sam. xvi. 7. Luke xvi. 15.

Thou, thou only knowest the hearts of all the children of men.-1 Kings viii. 39.

The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he, &c.-1 Chron. xxviii. 9. Deut. xxxi. 21. Ps. cxlvii. 5.

Behold, heaven, and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee, &c.2 Chron. vi. 18. Jer. xxiii. 24.

Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.-Job xxvi. 6.

His eye seeth every precious thing. God understandeth the way thereof; and he knoweth the place thereof; for he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven.

Job xxviii. 10. 23, 24. Isa. xl. 28. His eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. There is no darkness, &c. where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.Job xxxiv. 21, 22. Ps. xi. 4, 5. Job xxxi. 4.

The righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.-Ps. vi. 1. 9. Jeremiah xi. 20.

The Lord looketh from heaven

he beholdeth all the sons of men, &c. -Ps. xxxiii. 13-15.

Heaven is my throne, earth is my footstool.-Isa. Ixvi. 1. Acts vii. 49. Understand, ye brutish, &c. He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see? &c. The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.-Ps. xciv. 8, 9.11. 1 Cor. iii. 20. Thou, &c. understandest my thought afar off; thou, &c. art acquainted with all my ways: for there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether, &c. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, &c. Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there, &c.-Ps. cxxxix. 2-9, &c. Prov. v. 21. Jer. xxiii. 23, 24. Job ix. 11.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good, Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?-Prov. xv. 3. 11. 2 Chron. xvi. 9.

Woe unto them who seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord; and say, Who seeth us? who knoweth us? Shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He hath no understanding?-Isa. xxix. 15, 16.

Mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face; neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.-Jer. xvi. 17. xxxii. 19. 27.

I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins.-Jer. xvii. 10. xx. 12. Ps. xliv. 21.

Am I a God at hand, and not afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places, that I shall not see him? &c. Do not I fill heaven and earth ?—Jer. xxiii. 23, 24. xxxii. 19.

I know the things which come into your mind, every one of them.-Ezek. xi. 5. Amos iv. 13.

He revealed the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with bim. Dan. ii. 22. 28. Job xii. 22.

Thy Father who seeth in secret, himself shall reward thee openly, &c. Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.— Matt. vi. 4. 6. 8. 18. Rom. viii. 27.

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, &c. but the Father.-Mark xiii. 32.

Known unto God are all his works, from the beginning of the world. Acts xy. 18.

That they should seek the Lord, &c. though he be not far from every one of us. Acts xvii. 27.

O the depth of the riches, &c. of the knowledge of God, &c.-Rom.xi. 33, 34.

The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.-1 Cor. iii. 20, Pleasing, &c. God, who trieth our hearts.-1 Thess. ii. 4.

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.-Heb. iv. 13.

This is the message, That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all, 1 John i. 5.

SECT. VII. He is most Wise. He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength, &c.-Job ix. 4. xii. 13.

Shall any teach God knowledge, seeing he judgeth those that are high? Job xxi. 22.

The Lord of hosts, wonderful in counsel.-Isa. xxviii. 29.

The Lord is a God of Judgment. Isa. xxx. 18.

He hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.-Jer. x. 12. li. 15. Prov. iii. 19, 20.

O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments! &c. Who hath been his counsellor? &c. Rom. xi. 33-35.

To God, only wise, be glory, &c.Rom. xvi. 27. 1 Tim. i. 17.

The foolishness of God is wiser than men.—1 Cor. i¡ 25,1

That by the church might be known, &c. the manifold wisdom of God, &c.-Ephes. iii. 10.

SECT. IX. He is most Holy. WHO is like thee, O Lord? &c. glorious in holiness, &c.Exod. xv. 11.

I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity, &c.Exod. xx. 5. Nahum i. 2.

Ye shall be holy, for I am holy, &c.-Lev. xi. 44, 45. xix. 2. xx. 26. I the Lord, which sanctify you, am holy.-Lev. xxi. 8.

For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you.-Deut. vi. 15.

The Lord; for he is an holy God. he is a jealous God, he will not forgive, &c.-Josh. xxiv. 19.

There is none holy as the Lord; for there is none beside thee.-1 Sam. ii. 2.

Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God?-1 Sam. vi. 20. Josh. v. 14, 15. Ps. v. 4.

The knowledge of the holy, is understanding. Prov. ix. 10.

Behold from the habitation of thy holiness, &c. The people of thy holiness have possessed, &c.-Isa. lxiii.

God cannot be tempted with evil; neither tempteth he any man.—James i. 13.

Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, &c.Rev. iv. 8.

SECT. X. He is most Just.

A GoD of truth, and without iniquity; just and right is he.-Deut. xxxii. 4.

Thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, &c.-Neh. ix. 33. Jer. xii. 1. Lam. i. 18. 20.

Shall mortal man be more just than God?-Job iv. 17.

Surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. Wilt thou condemn him who is most just ?-Job xxxiv. 12. 17. 23. Ps. ix. 8. Job viii. 3.

He is excellent, &c. and in plenty of justice.-Job xxxvii. 23.

The righteous Lord loveth righteousness, &c.-Ps. xi. 7. xxxiii. 5. vii. 9.

Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne.-Ps. lxxxix. 14. No God else beside me, a just God, &c.-Isa. xlv. 21.

I am the Lord, who exercise, &c. judgment and righteousness in the earth, &c.-Jer. ix. 24. Ps. cxlv. 17. xix. 9.

The justice of God, both towards the righteous and wicked, argued at large. Ezek. xviii. xxxiii. 8, &c.

The Lord our God is righteous in all his works which he doth.-Dan. ix. 14.

The just Lord is in the midst thereof: he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light.-Zeph. iii. 5. Hosea xiv. 9.

Wrath against the day of wrath, and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.-Rom. ii. 5.

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which

SECT. XI. He is Compassionate, Piti I will not cause mine anger to fall

The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, &c. keeping mercy for thousands, &c.-Exod. xxxiv. 6, 7.

The Lord thy God is a merciful God; he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, &c.--Deut. iv. 31.

O give thanks to the Lord, &c. for his mercy endureth for ever.-1 Chron. xvi. 34. 2 Chron. xx. 21. Ps. cxviii. 1-4.

For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return, &c.2 Chron. xxx. 9. Ps. exvi. 5.

Thou art a God, &c. merciful, slow to anger, &c. For thy great mercy's sake thou didst not consume them, &c. for thou art a gracious and merciful God.-Nehem. ix. 17. 31. Ps. cxlv. 8. Lam. iii. 22, 23. Joel ii. 13.

Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens.-Ps. xxxvi. 5. lvii. 10.

Thou art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy.-Ps. lxxxvi. 15. cxi. 4. cxlv. 8. lxxviii. 38, 39.

upon you: for I am merciful, saith the Lord: I will not keep anger for ever.-Jer. iii. 12. Judges x. 15, 16.

Ephraim, my dear son, &c. my bowels are troubled for him I will surely have mercy on him, &c.-Jer. xxxi. 20. 2 Chron. xxxvi. 15.

To the Lord our God belong mercies, &c.-Dan. ix. 9.

I knew that thou art a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.-Jonah iv. 2. Joel ii. 13. Hos. xi. 8, 9. Judges ii. 18.

Who is a God like unto thee, who pardoneth iniquity? &c. He retain eth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.-Mic. vii. 18.

I am the Lord; I change not: therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.-Mal. iii. 6. Lam. iii. 22.

Remission of their sins: through the tender mercies (or bowels of mercy) of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high, &c.-Luke i. 77, 78.

Mercy, &c. shall go before thy face. SECT. XII. He is Long-suffering and -Ps. lxxxix. 14.

The Lord is good: his mercy is everlasting.-Ps. c. 5. i

The Lord is merciful, &c. he will not always chide, &c. As the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them who fear him. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them who fear him: for he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.-Ps. ciii. 8, 9. 11. 13, 14. Hosea xi. 8, 9. James v. 11.

Patient.

My Spirit shall not always strive, &c. yet his days shall be an hundredR and twenty years.-Gen. vi. 3.

God bore with the Amorites till their iniquities were full.-Gen. xv. 15, 16.
