were ended, and the feven years of dearth began to come; and the dearth was in all lands; but in the land of Egypt there was bread. And all countries ceme into Egypt, to Jofeph, for to buy corn.

36....Now when Jacob faw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob faid unto his fons, Why do yé look one upon another? And he faid, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get ye down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die. And Jofeph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.

37....And Jofeph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him, with their faces to the earth. And Jofeph knew his brethren; but made himself ftrange unto them, and ipake roughly unto them. And Jofeph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and faid unto them, Ye are fpies: to fee the nakednefs of the land ye are come.

38....And they said unto him, Nay my lord; but to buy tood are thy fervants come we are all one man's fons ; we are true men, thy fervants are no fpies.And he said unto them, Nay, but to fee the nakedness of the land ye are come.

39....And they faid, thy fervants are twelve brethren, the fons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not. And Jofeph faid unto them, That is it that I fpake unto you, faying, ye are fpies; hereby ye fhall be proved; for ye fhall not go hence except your youngest brother come hither.

40....Send one of you, and let him fetch your brothand ye fhall be kept in prifon, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you; or elfe furely ye are fpies.And he put them all together into

prifon three days. And Jofeph faid unto them the third day, This do, and live; for 1 fear God.

41....If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the houfe of your prifon; go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houfes : but bring your youngeft brother unto me, fo fhall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did fo.

42....And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we faw the anguish of his foul, when he befought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this diftrefs come upon us.And Reuben answered them, faying, Spake I not unto you, faying, do not fin against the child? and ye would not hear therefore, behold, alfo his blood is required.

43....And they knew not that Jofeph underfood them, for he fpake unto them by an interpreter. Aad he turned himself about from them, and wept and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes. Then Jofeph commanded to fill their facks with corn, and to reflore every man's money into his fack, and to give them provifion for the way.

44....And they laded their affes with the corn, and departed hence.-And as one of them opened his fack to give his ass provender in the inn, he efpied his money; for, behold, it was in the fack's mouth. And he faid unto his brethren, My money is restored and, lo, it is even in my fack. And their heart failed them, and they were afraid, faying one to another, what is this that God hath done unto us ?

45....And they came unto Jacob their father, and told him all that befel them, in Egypt. And it came to pals as they emptied their facks, that, behold, eve-.

ry man's money was in his fack; and when both they and their father faw the bundles of money they were afraid. And Jacob their father faid unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children; Jofeph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all thefe things are against me.

46....And Reuben spake unto his father, faying, Slay my two fons, if I bring him not unto thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again, And he laid, my fon fhall not go down with you for his brother is dead, and he is left alone ; it mifchief befall him in the way in which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with forrow to the grave.

47....And it came to pafs when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt (the famine continuing fore in the land that their father faid unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.-And Judah fpake unto him, faying, The man did folemnly proteft unto us, faying, Ye fhall not fee my face, except your brother be with you.-If thou wilt fend our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food;

48....But if thou wilt not fend him, we will not go down. And Ifrael faid, Wherefore dealt ye fo ill with me as to tell the man whether ye had yet any brother ? And they faid, The man afked us ftraightly of our flate, and of our kindred, faying, Is your father yet alive ? have ye another brother ? and we told him according to the tenor of thele words.

49.... Could we certainly know that he would fay, Bring thy brother down? And Judah faid unto Ifrael his father, fend the lad with me, and we will arise and go, that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and our little ones, I will be furety for him; of my hand fhalt thou require him; it I bring him not unto

thee, and fet him before thee, then let me bear the blame forever..

50....And their father Ifrael faid unto them, If it muft be fo now, do this: take of the best fruits of the land in your veffels, and carry down the man a prefent, a little balm, and a little honey, fpices, and myrrh, nuts and almonds and take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your focks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an over fight.

51....Take alfo your brother, and arife, go again unto the man, that he may fend away your other brother, and Benjamin; if I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

52....And the men took the prefent, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rofe up, and went down to Egypt, and ftood before Jofeph. -And when Jofeph faw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his houfe, Bring thefe men home, and flay, and inake ready; for these men fhall dine with me at noon. -And the man did as Jofeph bade; and the man brought the men into Jofeph's house.

53...And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they faid, Because of the money that was returned in our facks at the first time, are we brought in, that he may leek occafion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen.

And they came near to the fteward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the houfe, and faid, O fir! we came, indeed, down at the first time to buy food;

54....And it came to país, when we came to the inn, that we opened our facks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his fack; and we have

brought it again in our hand. And other money have we brought down in our hand to buy food; we cannot tell who put our money in our facks.

55...And he faid, Peace be unto you, fear not your God, and the God of your father hath given you treasure in your facks: had your money. And he. brought Simeon out unto them. And the man brought the men into Jofeph's houfe. And they made ready the prefent against Jofeph came at woon; for they had heard that they should eat bread there.

56....And when Jofeph came home, they brought him the prefent, which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earh. And be afked them of their welfare, and faid, Is your father well? The old man of whom you fpake, is he yet alive? And they answered, Thy fervant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

57....And he faw his brother Benjamin, his mother's fon, and faid. Is this your younger brother, of whom ye fpake unto me? and he said, God be gracious unto thee, my fon. And Jofeph made hafte; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother; and he fought where to weep and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

58....And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himfelt, and faid, Set on bread. And he took and fent meffes unto them, from before him : But Benjamin's mess was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank and were merry with him.

59....And he commanded the fleward of his house, faying, Fill the men's facks with food, and put every man's money in his fack's mouth; and put my cup, the filver cup in the fack's mouth of the youngest, and his
