tion, because they do not behave as they ought to us. We must not only forget, but likewise forgive, and pray that God would bless them. If one obstinate child had refused to bow to Esau, what mischief he might have done. When parents set before their children a good example there is reason to hope they will follow it. It is the duty of parents to promote a reconciliation among their children: when they fall out with each other. Jacob humbled himself before his brother and called him his lord. Many preserve themselves by a humble and submissive conduct. The ball flies over him that stoops. Many are forced to stoop as they pass through the world, and those that do not and will not, often get a hard knock on the head. Call upon God in the day of trouble and he will hear you. Jacob did not pray in vain. Children are the gift of God. Let us remember that he who gives them can take them back again when he pleaseth, this will moderate our affection to them. Let parents imitate Jacob's kind and tender care of his children, and not drive them, but lead and guide them. Let all shepherds and drovers imitate

imitate Jacob's care of his flocks and herds. How often do they overdrive those intrusted to their care. They occasion much pain to the poor creatures and loss to their employers. Drovers are often very cruel to the cattle they drive. Let all children imitate Jacob's child. ren, in their obedience to their parents and respect to their relations.

REBEKAH'S NURSE.

GEN 35. 8. But Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak.

IT is very remarkable that only three nurses are mentioned in the Bible. The first is Rebek ah's nurse. The second is the nurse of Mephibosheth. "He was but five years old when his father and grandfather were killed." His nurse heard of the Victory which the Philistines had gained over the Israelites. Saul and Jonathan were slain in battle. Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan. As soon as the nurse heard the news, she was afraid they would send a party of men to the house of Jonathan to kill his son, because he was next heir to the crown. She took up the child in her arms and was hastening with him to some place of safety, but making more haste than good speed, she fell, by which means either the child's ancle bones were broken or put out of

of joint, so that he was lame for the rest of his life.

The third was the nurse of Joash, who was taken by his aunt when he was only a year old and concealed with his nurse in one of the chambers of the temple for six years, so that by this we may suppose there were but few nurses among the Jews.

Let us then proceed to speak of Rebekah's Nurse, I shall notice, Her NAME, CHARAC TER, OFFICE, DEATH and BURIAL.

I. Her NAME. and CHARACTER,

Her name Deborah means a Bee. A little in sect that is very industrious. Nurses must be industrious, for they have generally plenty of work to do. At least I know that nurses in England have not much time to spare. The character of Deborah seemed to have been such as to have gained not merely the respect, but the love of all Jacob's family. When Rebekah was grown up to years of maturity, she was still kept in the family, of Bethuel. She went with Rebekah to Abraham's dwelling place and appears to have remained with Rebekah till her death.
