fruits of their labours. She obtained a know- ledge of salvation by the remission of sins; and for thirty years adorned the doctrine of GOD her SAVIOUR. In visiting the sick, and in attending the means of grace, she was dili- gent and unwearied; and has long shown her love to the ambassadors of CHRIST, who have been kindly entertained under her roof, and that of her husband. She died in the LORD J. B. after a short illness. Nov. 8th.-At York, in the twenty-eighth year of her age, MRS. STONER, wife of the REV. DAVID STONER, after a short, but severe and painful affliction, which she en- dured with much christian fortitude and pa- J. S. tience.
Nov. 16th.-At Nottingham, after a short, but severe illness, ROBERT GREGORY, ESQ., in the thirty-first year of his age, and in full confidence of a glorious immortality; having survived his amiable wife only four months.
By his death, the Methodist Society in this town have lost a highly respectable ClassLeader, Steward, Trustee, and Local Preacher; his aged and pious mother, her only son; his five young children, a most affectionate father; and the community a very valuable member. This is a mysterious, as well as an afflictive Providence; but, "the will of the LORD be done." Though "clouds and darkness are round about him, righteousness and judgment T. K. are the habitation of his throne."
Nov. 23d.-At London, the REV. FRANCIS WRIGLEY, the oldest Minister in the Methodist Connexion. He was distinguished through life by great sincerity and uprightness, and by undeviating and inflexible attachment to the Methodist doctrines and discipline. He finished his course in peace: Free from pain, and borne down by age and its attendant infirmities, "the weary wheels" of life "at length stood still."
THE SONG OF THE ANGELS: (Luke ii. 8:)
BY THE REV. ROBERT NEWSTEAD.
How illustrious the scene, how transporting the sound, Where the Shepherds of Bethlehem lay!
When the light of JEHOVAH illumin'd the ground, And the messenger-Angel was hovering round,-
'While he told where the SAVIOUR of men might be found, What harmony dwelt in the lay!
The glory of heaven shone full on their sight,
While they in an ecstasy gaz'd;
So clear the strong beams, and so splendid the light,
That to more than mid-day it transform'd the dull night;
With trembling they bow'd at a vision so bright;
And ador'd, though afraid and amazʼd.
"Fear not," was the message proclaim'd from the sky, "I bring you glad tidings of joy,
Of HIM who was promis'd in ages gone by,
Of HIM from whose presence all evil shall fly, Who will wipe every tear-drop from ISRAEL's eye, And Satan's dominion destroy.
"Unto you in the City of DAVID is born A SAVIOUR anointed your King:
The Sun of your glory doth brilliantly dawn, Whose beams shall illumine the distant forlorn, Whose splendour the ends of the earth shall adorn, And endless salvation shall bring."
Then instantly burst from the Loud's holy hill A glorious, angelical throng;
Singing, "Glory to GoD, peace on earth, and good-will, From heaven in the highest, on man descend still; Let thy glory, JEHOVAH, the Universe fill".
Till heaven clos'd in on their song.
On the Death of the REV. JOHN OWEN, A. M., one of the Secretaries of the British and Foreign Bible Society.
BY JAMES MONTGOMERY, ESQ.
(For the Wesleyan-Methodist Magazine.) Go to the grave in all thy glorious prime, In full activity of zeal and power; A Christian cannot die before his time,
The LORD's appointment is the servant's hour. Go to the grave;-at noon from labour cease,
Rest on thy sheaves, thy harvest-task is done; -Come from the heart of battle; and, in peace, Soldier, go home; with thee the field is won. Go to the grave; though like a fallen tree,
At once with verdure, flowers, and fruitage crown'd, Thy form must perish, and thine honours be
Lost in the mouldering bosom of the ground. Go to the grave, which, faithful to its trust, The germ of immortality shall keep, While, safe as watch'd by cherubim, thy dust Shall, till the judgment-day, in JESUS sleep. Go to the grave, for there thy SAVIOUR lay
In death's embraces, ere He rose on high, And all the ransom'd, by that narrow way, Pass to eternal life beyond the sky.
Pass thou beyond it; take thy seat above;
Soul of the Just, be present with the LORD, Where thou, for faith and hope, hast perfect love, -The open vision for the written word.
