SIX EASY LESSONS,

On the Providence and Omniprefence of GOD.
LESSON I.

THERE is but one God, and there is none but he. He is great, wife, and good. He made us, and all the things we fee. He made the fun to give us light by day, and the moon and ftars to fhine at night. He made this world in which we live, the land, the fea, and the fky, and all things that are in them

LESSON II.

GOD made men and beafts to live on the land; trees and plants to grow out of the earth; birds to fly through the air; and the fish to fwim in the fea.

This GOD is very good, and doth good at all times: He takes care of all

things that he has made, and gives us what is good, when we do that which is right.

LESSON III.

O then let me love GOD, for he is good to me; he gives me bread to eat, and clothes to wear, to keep me from the cold; he guards me from harm through the day, and keeps me fafe whilft I fleep in the night. As he is good to all, I will do all the good I can, for I am fure that will please him, and then he will love me.

LESSON IV.

GOD fees and knows all things that. we do, for he fees us when we rise out of bed, when we go to school, and when we go to play: and when we lie down to fleep at night, he is ftill with. us. Though we can not fee him, yet he fees us; for where we are, there is he, though we see him not.

LESSON. V.

As foon as I rife from my bed, I will then pray and fay: "O God,. "who haft made me, and art with me "at all times, guard me from harm. "all this day, and keep me from all

"ill; make me a good child; teach me to love all my friends, to fear thee, to love thee, to ferve thee, "and please thee in all things, thro' "Chrift our Lord. Amen.

LESSON VI.

WHEN I lie down in my bed at night to reft, I will fay, "O GOD, I "thank thee, that thou haft kept me. "from harm this day; I pray thee be "good to me ftill, and let me fleep "this night in peace; and when I rife. " in the morn, teach me to do more: good than I have done this day, "through Christ our Lord. Amen.

TWELVE LESSONS,

On the DUTY of CHILDREN.

LESSON I.

My dear child you come to fchool to be taught to read, and to know what will be for your good when you are grown up.

I will teach you the right way, and lead you in the good path.

Mind well what I fay at all times, and be sure to do what I bid you.

LESSON II.

RISE foon each day, caft off fleep and fhun floth, then wash your hands and face clean, and. on your knees pray to God to blefs you.

Then make hafte to school, and play not by the way, nor let your voice be heard in the street. Give no caufe to those who see you, to fay you are rude.

LESSON III.

COME to fchool clean and neat, take your book, go to your place, and learn as fast as you can.

If one that fits near you would tempt you to chat and talk, give no ear to him.

If a child would chat and play, when he ought to mind his book and learn, that child must be whipt.

LESSON IV.

WHEN you have got your task that is fet you, and it is your turn to go up to read, take care to fpeak plain, and found all your words right.

Read from point to point, as you fee the ftops in your book.

Skip not the points you meet with, nor make ftops where none are put in your book.

LESSON V.

WHEN YOU Come to a word that you can not read, be fure to fpell it; and try to mind it well, that you may know it the next time that you fee it.

Be not in too much hafte, but take time and think how you ought to read, and look not off your book.

Thus if you take pains, you may foon learn to read well.

LESSON VI.

WHEN fchool is done, you may go to sports and play; but take care you do no hurt to your play-mates.

Go not to play but by leave from your friends; you fhould not go out of the houfe, if they bid you stay at home. If they grant you leave, then you may go; and be fure not to stay too long, but go home in good time that you vex not your friends.

LESSON VII.

Do not tell a lie, nor fay what is not true; you make one fault two, if you tell a lie to hide it.

Let not an ill word come out of your mouth, but fpeak that which is good at all times..
