A GENERAL and COMPLEAT TREATISE ON ALL THE DISEASES Incident to CHILDREN, FROM Their Birth to the Age of Fifteen. WITH Particular INSTRUCTIONS to tender Mothers, Dr. JOHN ASTRUC, AND Chief Physician to his prefent Majesty the King " LONDON: Printed for JOHN NOURSE, at the Lamb, THE PREFACE. HE principal motive which T induced me to publish these A lectures, is the great reputation Doctor ASTRUC's works bear among the learned; not only for his perfpicuity in theory, juftnefs in his principles, but fuccefs in his practice, which have gained him an univerfal approbation, and make this work preferable to any thing. written on the present fubject: for all the authors who have hitherto treated of the difeafes of children, if Originals, are either too confused A 2 and and imperfect, or not fufficiently copious; if Compilers, they are unintelligible from their injudicious collections; wherefore to fupply thefe defects, the Dr, has endeavoured to keep a medium; infert nothing fuperfluous, neglect nothing neceffary, and to adapt the ftile to the meanest capacity. I hope the candid reader will cori rect and excufe the few mistakes of the pret's by the errata I have nothing more to premise, but leave the whole to the judgment of able physicians; for fay what I will in favour of this treatife, it is its merit alone can give it reputation. . |
